i have a linux installed with non-free stuff like google chrome, intellij, pycharm. some of this stuff was runned by me. is it sufficient to remove these programs from system or should i make a new clean linux installation with only free software?

>>82683 Just delete them. In the future it's better to install non-free stuff with flatpak, it's a lot easier to manage and offers you sandboxing.

Depends on what you want, in only 10% of the cases might as well just do a clean wipe. But you will learn something from it, change a distro, or more.

it's a game of odds. if you install stuff from your distro's repo, the odds of getting something malicious are reduced. if you downloaded and ran something from untrusted site xyz, the odds are greater. the safest thing to do is reinstall, then make a backup of your pristine, uncorrupted installation. then secure it a little bit by following some reliable guide. then install and run only reasonably trustworthy software. then learn some basic operational security. none of this is rocket science and there are beginner-accessible guides to be found on the internet. if you feel the odds are that your system isn't yet compromised, just purge it of questionable stuff and continues. you can always reinstall later if you feel the need. here's an easy way to do a backup: https://lainchan.org/%CE%A9/res/82434.html#q82435
