It's a pretty hard question though, I just felt like someone would think I would be right with it.
Supporting Points: Windows 7 was the last to use "Windows Aero.", and it was the last to mainly use 3d looking applications while in the OS and using it in normal ways.

For the time it was released, 2000 or XP probably would take the cake. Huge improvement over DOS-based Windows 9X. I'm very fond of 7, but overall it wasn't that massive of a leap over XP and Vista.
W7 was certainly the last version of Windows that (somewhat) still respected the user, though.

2000 and late xp were great but vista and then 7 brought many quality of life improvements. 7 is just a mix of great things about earlier windows and more modern windows and it does nothing excessively wrong unlike later releases.

It's dogshit. Vista and 7 were what finally pushed me over the edge to switch to loonix.

This is the reason people like 7
starting 8 the updates were of malware nature instead user friendly improvement.
8 started the trend of hiding settings from user.
10 ignores&resets settings. Updated added logging hashes of images you look at.
11 logs all user activity. (recall) and they got plans to control what you can install

yes, it's ux is unmatched my any other os. in fact i'd say that it's the last "classic" version of windows to still be usable in the modern day. projects like doxexe's extended kernel and vxkex along with a multitude of forks of popular software (r3dfox, python-win7, blender-compat, supermium) make it perfectly usable for basic tasks and p
as well as it being the last to have the proper Aero design, it also was the last to have a classic theme and the last windows os to allow turning off the compositor, which can help with responsiveness and graphical performance (mostly on older gpus)

that's why it's so good, it didn't reinvent anything, it was basically windows vista r2. in fact the server equivalent is literally just called windows server 2008 r2.

while windows 7 was usable far beyond current windows, windows was never good

agreed. OpenSUSE 12 on my VAIO was my first linux experience after Windows 7 was too hard to run.

Dos was the best thing happened to PC, after it and nasty Doors UI, everything fell apart
