smartphone battery fix?

Koos van der Merwe · 2024-09-20 02:28
i have this old phone of mine (Samsung j1 ace) (never rooted) (image is not mine) and i really love using it even though i have a newer phone. the problem is his battery runs out like crazy, before i used it for 2 days before having to charge it but now i have to charge it every 2 hours which is unbelievable because it never heats or bugs, and everything with it looks fine. i tried reaching to smartphone repairers but they told they no longer accept or operate on older models so i am on my own here. i tried factory reset but that changed nothing. is there a way i could fix this?

Your battery is physically/chemically degraded, there's notthing you can do except change the battery. You might find an aftermarket new one which is compatible, on aliexpress or something.

What's you user experience with Samsung? I thought maybe to buy one with < 6'' screen because these chinese Xiaomi are ridiculous.

>>79925 they are amazing, the software is very good, they're light and reliable, i think it has a small storage but i enjoyed it nonetheless

>>79913 Look up repair guides for the model. If none exist, look up guides for similar models before opening the phone. Pay attention to whether or not you will be able to obtain replacement gaskets/adhesives, and if glass components are still around just in case. Open the phone and obtain the battery serial number. Search for a replacement battery, then install it. Luckily you have another phone already so you can afford to sacrifice it if you screw this up. Alternate route: velcro a charging bank to the back and continue using the phone while looking really cool. I cannot wait for the return of user-replaceable batteries. Nobody likes smart phones now that you can't have anything good anymore. They took 3.5mm jacks, SD card slots, notchless/punchhole-less screens, square-cornered screens, tape-coverable cameras, and easily customizable ROMs away from us. Sales went down because that blows, so they raised prices. Now people want "dumb" phones, and smartphone prices will keep going up to compensate for that. I hope you enjoyed my TED talk.

I heard theres an Israeli company basically handing out battery modules for free

The only way I would ever buy another smartphone is if it has a replaceable battery, a normal Linux filesystem, normal Linux hardware ports, and is rootable, with available custom recovery like TWRP and custom ROM like LineageOS. But since that isn't going to happen, my phones will be landlines and dumb-phones from now on.

You can't give capacity back to a batter. You can at most make a seemingly dead battery start charging again but you risk it exploding in the process. >>79930 Gave me a chuckle. You can't give capacity back to a batter. >>79942 You're messing with me aren't you? Making me think I screwed up posting

>>79928 this phone looks old enough to have a removable battery, so no real need to dissect it
Hououin Kyouma · 2024-09-21 12:21
>>79949 If that's the case, the easiest way to buy a replacement battery is to search the model/serial number printed on the battery. Do not search for them by the phone model because there can be regional differences and many phones shared batteries, which leads to confusion.

>>79960 the thing is i am afraid to buy a new battery only for the problem to remain unsolved, i can't be sure if it's the battery's doing, or maybe some internal circuits are messed up....
Crazy Jake · 2024-09-21 12:52
>>79961 It's probably the battery. I looked up your phone on gsmarena and it DOES have a removable battery. There are 7 sub-models. Pop it out right now and search for the battery serial number. The replacement will probably be between $15-30 USD.
Cutter · 2024-09-21 12:59
>>79961 Besides, if the phone powers on when plugged in, it's a bad battery.
fsociety · 2024-09-21 13:13
>>79965 >>79966 yes it is removable, i will look up for a replacement tomorrow, if i find one i just hope that works because i really love this phone, i will update you when i do.

btw many apps stopped working like two years ago since my phone can't receive newer updates because of its android version...
Lady 3Jane.. · 2024-09-21 15:38
>>79969 Yeah. The thinger said that phone can only update to android 5. Even still, old phones with SD cards and audio jacks are still nice to keep around.
