How does one set up an internet radio station? All the search results I can find are ads disguised as guides, where one of the steps is "sign up to our platform".

An internet radio is basically just an audio stream transmitted over tcp/udp.

Never done it before but I think that basically, you need to stream audio through a protocol that is supported by the web browser like RTMP using a normal web server like nginx (maybe with some plugins to support these protocols) and then put a link to it in an <audio> or <video> tag in the HTML for your site.
Maybe check this for more details:

mpd makes it very easy, literally has a section for it in config. and you can embed the stream into any webpage

I'm familiar with mpd, so that sounds good. Thanks.

I want to learn this as well. Lainchan's radio is cool (except the repeating crimson king or whatever tf music). How did the admin-lainanons collect the music? Did they download a bunch of opus music or somthing?

Oh, I've been meaning to get into making an internet radio for a while now. Thanks lain!

He's self proclaimed schizo so one doesn't have to wonder.
