Radio Wave Surfin

any other lainons that are hams, or amateur radio nerds? I've always had an interest, but so far most of my experience has just been surfing nearby waves with little sdr and a laptop, trying to figure out what I can do with an extremely low budget to increase my range for listing, and possibly a brain to pick about how to tune my set up. tia

>>78466 I recently got into it, I just have an RTL SDR with a Raspberry Pi though. First I used it with SDR Sharp on my laptop which was really user friendly, but on my pi I use GQRX which seems less user friendly. I also got HamClock and GPredict running, but there's a lot of ham radio apps for SDR that I still don't know how to work

Been into it for a year now with a license. Mostly do listening cause I can't really talk on a lot of HF with only a technicians license. Love listening to jammers on 7.200 mhz (heard a ham refer to it once as the "clown channel" lol) Listened to a shortwave pirate one day (Crapola Radio). I Want to get into to more digital modes and decoding stuff with fldigi and gqrx. If you have a limited setup finding a websdr (see websdr.org) nearby your location might be a fun way to play around. :D

From time to time I love browsing radios on websdr.org sometimes just for the sake of hearing weird noises (as a noise music enjoyer I just love the sound textures generated by it). Sometimes I can hear people talking, music or lots of interesting sounds I can't decipher but I like it.

>>78476 I've only been messing around with it for just about a year, and while I can pick up local fm radio, I seem to run into trouble picking up anything other than that. hopefully I'll be able to beef up my set up but for the time being I'm trying to find the cheapest solution assuming it's not just user error. >>78479 that was one part I didn't know i'd find so interesting, but it can be fun listening to the static and all the weird noises
