are wireless headphones “bad” for you?

i was wondering what your opinions are on wireless headphones like airpods. i have airpod pros and while i really like the noise canceling and find the quality is good, i know some people say you should stick to wired.

Nah they are fine imo. From what I hear, most folks that prefer wired headphones/iem just don't want to deal with bluetooth and/or the batteries. (which will degrade over time)

electronic radiation is a big problem but these arent that bad in the grand scheme of things if you live near high vultage power lines or keep a cellphone in your pocket or set a laptop on your lap or use wifi in your house.

>>77853 i don't like them cause i haven't listened to wireless headphones as good as the iem's i've tried but if there was a good wireless option i'd switch, i know there's some fiio wireless adaptors for iem's but i never tried them, also a few days ago i found an XM4 on the ground so i guess they're easy to lose if you're not careful

>>77856 >found an XM4 on the ground so i guess they're easy to lose if you're not careful The idea of someone finding them on the ground and taking em never occurred to me. Cool weird find :D

I hate them. Far too often I try to call out to someone only for them to not hear me because they've got soykaf in their ears.

I don't like wireless monitors. They always sound worse than wired ones. I don't like in-ear monitors either, wired or not. They always give me "listening fatigue" and a strange sense of inner ear imbalance or vertigo and massively reduce sound-related situational awareness when wearing them outside. This is dangerous in a world where cars are so quiet. I only use wired on-ear or over-ear headphones. They're reliable, safer, and sound good. If a device does not have a conventional wired audio jack I do not want it and will not buy it.

I have never been able to tolerate in-ear speakers of any type. They hurt my ears. >>77861 Oh hey I remember you. I remember that the strongest conclusion I could draw from any of your infodumps was that maybe one should not hold a cell phone close to their body (like within 20 centimeters) while they are using any substantial amount of cell data, and wi-fi devices are probably safe unless you're holding it up to your head. And I guess don't hang out within a meter or two of a 5G antenna, since the big ones can transmit at about 20W. Spooooky.

I use Galaxy buds FE for work in a loud factory. Noise canceling cancels ambient noise really well, but it causes loud noises to sound distorted and high pitched. It's really disorientating so I keep noise controls turned off. It works well enough and provides enough noise cancellation to not require ear-protection. I use the 'clear' EQ settings and the sound quality is great for anyone that isn't an audiophile. >i know some people say you should stick to wired. If you're going to use wired, stick to headphones. If you're in a environment where headphones aren't appropriate, then the added of sound quality most likely isn't worth the hassle. For 98.52% of people, wired earbuds are outdated and unnecessary in 2024.

>>77875 >enough noise cancellation to not require ear-protection is that really safe? >If you're in a environment where headphones aren't appropriate what's an environment where headphones aren't appropriate (but earbuds are)?

>>77876 >is that really safe? I think it should be safe in theory. Assuming it's ANC, the noise that will be filtered should be similar to a hum or something quieter. pic rel. In practice? Unsure. I haven't found info that supports the theory when doing a quick search.

>>77876 >is that really safe? No. OH&S would not pass it as safe. I've used earplug ear protection for a long time, but I honestly can't tell the difference between. It's safe enough. >what's an environment where headphones aren't appropriate (but earbuds are)? Out in public and work. In practice, you dont need the added audio quility while multitasking. Wireless ear buds are sufficient.

>>77853 I have two different bluetooth 5.X version ones and they both feel bad. It's not even the sound quality or too loud kind of pain. It is just painful and terrible that I'd prefer the EMF-ridden AC-plugged-PC or (a charging) phone connected to wired earphone. If IPS panels give off this eyestrain (very high EMF reading on my meter), I think it is comparable to bluetooth in-ears. So it might take a little time adjusting or getting used to it but I think it's terrible and I won't use bluetooth so I'm putting it on my boycott list (I'm just waiting for nearlink buds if they feel the same or not). My ears feel like they have pain from infection minutes after using BT5 buds Maybe some people are less sensitive to these stuff, I mean I even at some point blindtested live AC cable by feel, and would also feel the heatup from phone calls (honestly VoLTE calls has less heatups and I prefer them) while most of the general population don't even find it annoying which I find extremely ODD.
