Desk Treadmills are tech

Not fat. · 2024-01-11 04:50
I notice that a lot of you are chronically depressed and fat. That’s no way to go through life son. Most of you weren’t even beaten by your father and sent off to war you have no excuses. A desk treadmill will allow you to burn thousands of extra calories in a day and improve your concentration. Some studies even show that they break focus a lot less than you might expect. I fuarrrking love mine and will quit my job on the spot if they try to take it for me. I do at least 7 miles a day on it. I know a lot of you have ADHD or depression and the benefits of exercise for both cannot be understated. So why don’t you have a desk treadmill fattie? Take the first step.

>>75178 Go outside, dingus. It's nice out there if you ignore the security cameras and barbed wire.

from everything i could find its impossible to buy a silent reliable one even if you were willing to pay a lot. Cant imagine working while that thing squeaks all the time. Im already getting annoyed at fan noise and went with watercooling.

>having a treadmill desk at the office I bet you use blue clicky switches on your workdesk keyboard too. You might be better (and cheaper) off with a stepper instead, pic related. And ofc there's no option to have the treadmill be silent if you slam your heels while "running". Where the running itself isn't running either, it's jumping on the spot. If you are seriously considering getting one, stop and get a jumping rope instead and pay like 10 instead of 1000 bucks and possibly got more out of it. Or if you just want to walk then pace instead, I personally do it for hours while I think. It's free and your eyes perceiving forward movement improves creativity supposedly. And if you really want to spend a lot of money on something you can use while watching shows and youtube then get a rowing machine instead. And naturally, if you actually care for running and got a park near by or are somewhere rural, just leave the house and actually train your toes to provide forward momentum. Train to run without your heels even touching the ground. "running" shoes are a scam too. Just get 20 dollar sail cloth/martial arts shoes instead of the 200 dollar nonsense that makes you look like a jackass. This will actually train your calves and feet rather than making you notice less how you're ruining your knee joints. Just don't buy treadmills and thank me later.

>>75260 op's idea is build on veery slow walking while working - otherwise you couldn't even type. The idea is 8h daily slow walk on mill beats sitting by far. Thats also why its not even competing with exercise outside work. Its simply trying to improve work conditions. That said im the previous poster who finds it distracting regardless. Also in terms of replacement i've been using an indoor cycling bike while watching videos on my todo list. For a mouse replacement hook a wiimote to pc and use it as a pointer mouse. Its easy and works well enough.

Because I already tread the wageslave treadmill on my desk

>>75260 nta: >1000 bucks Underdesk treadmills can be bought new for around $180. They're not as expensive as exercise treadmills because they're designed to move at a walking speed only and typically don't come with all the bells and whistles full treadmills do. >jump rope >pace >rowing machine The point of underdesk treadmills is that you can use them while you're working on the computer. I can't program while jumping rope or rowing. Like >>75268 said, the main benefit is that the 8 hours you'd normally spend sitting at a computer desk is now spent walking. >You might be better (and cheaper) off with a stepper instead, pic related Agree here mostly. There's some pros and cons to both but a good standing stepper can be nice, especially for travel. The downside is that they're not as comfortable to use as a treadmill, balance can be any issue, and it's a little harder to work while using them in my experience.

Reading a book on a treadmill is one thing, but I can't imagine getting a good workout in while also using my hands and brain for computer stuff.

>>75178 ive been interested in one of these for years, but every one ive found had wifi crap and looked like spyware. do you have any recommendations OP that are just offline, plain desk treadmills? >>75301 these arent intended for good workout, its for passive health benefits (keeping the muscles moving, less strain on your back from sitting all day, passive calorie burn). they arent a substitute for workout, they are an augment to it >rather than making you notice less how you're ruining your knee joints. walking ruins your knee joints now?
Jane Doe · 2024-01-20 09:19
seems like you could DIY one not too hard. big plate to hold your weight and small motor to roll some vinyl or whatever cant be too hard right. Could be all wood except the drive, electronics and belt >>75310 >walking ruins your knee joints now? yeah the only way to be healthy is to never move a muscle or joint when you can help it. get with the times man
Elliot Alderson · 2024-01-20 13:00
>>75310 >>75311 walking is fine, jogging is bad on knees since the movement has high impact, pro runners wreck knees ahead of avg lazy slobs (doing nothing also bad cause cartilage dies off). Advice for healthy knees is replace jogging with bicycle. That said i suspect its also stupid conditions causing the problem - i.e. on asphalt over soft surface like woods/sand and running heel touching first for max impact over leading with front so your get one more joint to help brace the impact.

I love mine, I get 10-12k steps in a day because of it, it's great. As others mentioned, yes there are cheapo ones for under $200 but they're cheap for a reason. Those are the noisy ones and will crap out if you're a heavy guy like me (guess how I know?) I ended up going with Lifespan Fitness's top of the line under desk treadmill. I spent a pretty penny but it has a really high weight limit and a beefy motor. It's extremely sturdy and I am confident it will last me a while. By contrast the soykafty little amazon one I bought crapped out after 2 months, I've been using this new one since June 2023 and it feels just as good as when I bought it.

>>75300 Alright, I think I understood the concept now and what the aim is. It makes sense to me the way you explained it. However, and this might be some personal association that I have, it still feels gimmicky to me and I wouldn't go beyond just a standing desk while also being tempted to suggest to get one of these wagie wheels with well greased ball bearings. But that's just me.

I set up a desk on a normal treadmill, and a TV a little away connected to my computer. What I found was that the bouncing of my head and even swaying from my stride moving me back-and-forth was super distracting. What I have found works is watching on Amy while on my exercise bike, I wish I could use my rowing machine while even watching anime but I think I would need a VR headset or something since you’re constantly going to be zooming towards the screen and back.
