I have a youtube playlist of about 1500+ songs that i've built up over the years. However because im tired of being part of the botnet (and because youtube is so soykaf in general), i've decided to self host. To do this i need to download everything, and i figured while im at it i might as well see if i can get everything in the highest available quality.
Heres the problem though: the playlist is a mess. There are duplicate music videos in it, some of them are AMVs or similar (so the video title is not the same as the actual music), some have been removed (though i can still find them via archive.org), some are very low quality encodings, there are videos with multiple songs in them (and youtubes auto song detector thing isn't reliable). I dont want to lose any of my songs when i go to self host. All this means i cant exactly rely on any automated tool like youtube-dl to get the audio files, nor to even just extract which songs exactly are in there.
The only strategy i can think of is to literally just go one by one. Inspect the video myself, determine which song is playing, figure out the band and actual song title, look it up in my current music library to make sure its not already there (i have to make sure to title each song properly every time), find a torrent for a high quality version of the song, and download it. This is going to take quite a while so i guess im going to have to split it up into doing 10 songs a day or something.
Before i embark on this venture i just wanted to ask the smart lainanons if they could see any possible way to speed this up. Otherwise this is going to take me half a year.

====use yt-dlp to download it get an then put it on your phone or whatever listening device you want from then on download yourr music after organising it this is the issue with using services for your music and or other media is if the service goes bad you lose your stuff luckily youtube is easy to download from but if you transfer to something else like spotify orr itunes it may be more difficult to recover yourr stuff in the future

fpbp. I used to mass download my playlist with something simlar to yt-dlp back in the days. if i wanted to do it again i'd mess with yt-dlp.
The real headache is going to be organizing. It's up to you how you organize it all. For me, I structure my collection starting with Artist > Albums > Songs
(If the name of the artist is lost I just put it in the "idk" pile)
In your case, you could organize your collection by name of channels and then songs. I think there is a way to fetch a channel's name and insert it in the title of your file. maybe something like
yt-dlp -o "%(channel)s - %(title)s.%(ext)s" "URL" (Found this on issue 6801 in the yt-dlp repo on github.)

Sorry I only skimmed the thread. Gave it a proper read.
>Playlist fuarrrked because of some of the videos are:
>Duplicate videos
>low quality encodings
>multiple songs
I would still try to download everything and sort everything by channel names. Because I imagine the problem videos are going to be under the same channel name. Instead of targetting single videos one by one, you'll be singleing out whole channels and their videos. Sorting problem channels first and review those ones. It'll save you the hassle of going thru every single videos, at least.

The longest journey begins with the first step.
You want the content and independence - download it. Let me tell you, stuff that was on you-tube when I was young isn't on you-tube anymore, and now and again I wish I had downloaded them.
Youtube-dl has to download a video anyway, it extracts the audio if you request. You can do the same later in a lazy way with ffmpeg.
Just download all the videos, and as you listen to your music, decide to keep or scrap the video, and automate the extract audio, replace file in library with ffmpeg thing.
If you did want to take it up a notch, a good proxy for if you want to keep the video might be frame similarity. If the frames are virtually identical the whole time, its probably not a "video". This will weed out a substantial chunk of work based on my experience of music on youtube, which use album covers - but that's hard-work, and only a 1500 songs is manageable as you will be listening to them for years.
Just lazy convert.
