Hello, I need to buy 4G LTE modem. PC should see public ip, not private one. Is it a good idea to buy these products: https://allegro.pl/oferta/adapter-ngff-m-2-key-b-na-usb-3-0-z-gniazdem-sim-6-13609755456 https://allegro.pl/oferta/dell-modem-wwan-4g-lte-dw5809e-em7305-13921769345 ? Thanks(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

Just buy a USB one and be done with it

>>74256 4G LTE speeds go up to 150 Mbps and 4G LTE A offers speeds up to 300 Mbps. USB 3.0 supports 5 Gbps over what is usually a 3 meter cable but USB 3.0 does not specify a maximum cable length. USB 2.0 supports 480 Mbps over 5 meters. Do with this information what you will.

>>74256 Also OP most upload/download speeds are going to be different and the difference between those two is going to be determined by your ISP. There are wireless ISPs that can offer over 1 Gbps but I would need to know more about your specific use case in order to recommend one over the other.

>>74256 I guess I can use this thread for my question instead of opening a new one. Since USB modems are... well... modems, is there any way to make them receive sms or even calls? I know handling calls would be too difficult but the thing I actually want is SMS anyways.
Anamika · 2024-02-08 18:18
>>75689 Of course it's possible, SMS is quite easy (you send an AT command to your modem using a communication program (kermit, etc). Voice is doable with specialized software.

>>74742 Tailgating on this old thread- what usb 4g lte dongle should I get and what us carrier would let me get at least 150 down 50 up with truly unlimited data and no throttling? Was thinking visible but I wonder if they would not like me using their service for this. I wonder if I could get a cheapo Chinese smartphone and put netshare on it with visible and then tether (for free with netshare) through usb to my server and do things that way? I could then set up a switch to the nic and share the network through that, using the server as a router.

>>75700 Can you detail it more? Or maybe send a link where I can read more about that? Can I also change the IMEI number? I have a laptop which I take with myself and it would be pretty useful to just put one of my sim cards in it and use mobile data while also getting verification sms'

>>74256 >PC should see public ip, not private one. do agree. you can do that on huawei dongles running in "usb serial mode" there are tools out there to just do that and it's completely legal (you can set it) however their speed maybe spotty, if you live in highly urban place then it might even be worse, however there are stuff that can put up to two antennas over the USB which is kinda cool, you can plug them on openwrt and tomato routers with modemmanager package or wwan serial mode >Is it a good idea to buy these products: really depends. likely that your laptop bios blacklists that mpcie modem. cpu may also not support that wwan so it depends.
