Browser decay

This soykaf is getting to be ridiculous. Look at this soykaf. Look at it. It's utterly absolutely inconceivably and blatantly intellectually cognitive psychosocially literally metaphorically symbolically allegorically theoretically metaphysically existentially bullshit AND retarded, everything is designed for a phone or tablet. It doesn't matter if you use firefox, ungoogled chromium, brave, internet explorer. The bookmarks system is retarded. The history function si retarded. The extensions and plugins menu is reatrded. The settings are retarded. It's all become so fuarrrking completely unusuable. Like look at this soykaf. What am I supposed to do with? This braindead column that doesn't even show the URL, every entry is huge, you can't sort or arrange it as a gride, you can't change sorting at all, you can't do anything it's just a fuarrrking column of BULLSHIT. WHY. fuarrrkING WHY A browser from 20 years ago had better UX and usability than this. Firefox 3 was better than this.
Koichiro · 2023-09-19 11:21
you chose that browser and now you are angry. choose another.
Naomi Nascimento · 2023-09-19 11:42
Firefox Ctrl+Shift+O isn't bad at all
Delilah · 2023-09-19 13:03
Yeah yeah, switch to qutebrowser.
H.R. Giger · 2023-09-20 06:25
>>72916 firefox was soykaf around 2005. it was always soykaf really brave is not even a thing, you fell for a meme. its basically a crypto scam. even if it had nothing to do with crypto, it would still be a scam of the same type
Haruyoshi · 2023-09-20 09:52
>A browser from 20 years ago had better UX and usability than this times have changed, lainon, but you still have the power to make a difference, at least in your personal environment. you have a couple of options: 1. create your own browser, which is what i'm doing. webkit and gtk aren't that hard to learn; 2. use a different browser. if you want suggestions, luakit and badwolf are pretty good; 3. stop whining; >inb4 muh tracking protection disable javascript, and don't visit bloated, cloudflared websites that are filled with trackers. it's that simple. maybe even put them in your /etc/hosts.
Ender · 2023-09-20 15:25
>year 2000 + 23 >using the scam crypto browser jeez bro, is 4 cents a month worth it?
Motoko Kusanagi · 2023-09-20 15:48
>>72951 Name a good browser. Chrome's bookmark management is no better.
Lunch · 2023-09-20 15:49
>>72963 Yes, I'm from a third world country where that is the yearly wage of many people.
Yu-ichi · 2023-09-20 17:48
>>72963 My primary browser is ungoogled chromium. I use multiple browsers and was looking for some bookmark I remembered having.
Mentat · 2023-09-21 09:13
>>72966 xbrowsersync, althogh it's a bit unmaintained. It's stable as it is now, one or two bugs I encountered on firefox but dont matter. The author is still active. So it is likely to be fixed. go check the github!

>>72916 >everything is designed for a phone or tablet Well, yes, designing UI for the most used form-factor sounds like very reasonable thing to do. Desktop lost. I am saddened by it as well, but the best thing you can do is deal with it. >>72959 >1. create your own browser, Wouldn't creating browser extension be order of magnitude easier to do?
Trinity · 2023-09-22 07:49
>>72975 if that fits your use-case better, then sure. for me though, a browser extension doesn't solve the inherent problems in firefox, which was my main browser before switching to my own. you can't debloat firefox through extensions, otherwise it wouldn't be an "extension." My goal is to have a smaller, simpler browser, and firefox is not small nor simple in any reasonable way. also, more importantly, i enjoy coding in C way more than i probably would in JS.
Naomi Nascimento · 2023-09-29 04:28
>>72916 >It doesn't matter if you use firefox [googl'es anti-trust shield], or google's chrome [ungoogled chromium, brave, internet explorer]. yes it's all just google. would you look at that google sans font on "brave browser"!
Void · 2023-10-03 11:46
>>72916 I was searching for a decent browser and I found one. Falkon has a lot of features, such as turning off JavaScript, that have been removed from other browsers. If I understood things correctly it doesn’t use a soykaf rendering engine such as chrome’s or Firefoxes. It uses a different one but it works really well and displays all sites I have visited without issues. It exists for Linux (maybe in your package manager) and windows. No macos version as far add I can tell.

this thread is soul. web browser and webdev in general needs more sh1tting on. we need to go back to the assumption that JS is not a language, with memes like it not being turing complete brave was an obvious fly by night bewmer shitsh0w from the get g0 so im not disappointed since i never expected anything of it what really pisses me off is if i install any distro of linux what so ever, firefox is right there, and i click on it, and since im not using my $2000 gaming rig, it takes forever to open then opens up a bunch of tabs selling me firefox even though i already bought it since there's no alternative[1] with braindead yuppie sh1t "we're bringing you an amazing web" and then all this gay cloud sh1t like Firefox Pocket. even typing something in the URL bar now says something like !brought to you by Firefox Suggest (TM)!", its so fuarrrk3ng moronic. 1. yeah i use librewolf but its still just gonna be sh1t because its forked and presumably patched from the same retards
Bobby Newmark · 2023-10-03 13:15
>>72975 >AHURR DURR MAKING MEANINGLESS GARBAGE THAT YOUR BOSS ASKS YOU SOUNDS LIKE A REASONABLE THING TO DO android has no fuarrrking UI. its worse than windows 9x. im not comparing them to each other, im comparing their quality. windows GUI solves its niche 8/10. android GUI doesnt even try to solve its niche and gets 1/10. every fuarrrk3ng part of the GUI toolkit is sh1t. every fuarrrk3ng app is sh1t. they're all underpowered garbage; youll think some basic feature exists, then look around in the randomly placed menus for it and go "oh i guess it doesnt exist then". no, autist, wanting to copy the phone number (this is an example, i dont use that sh1t enough to remember anything but its always something this dumb) out of a text conversation is not a special powersuperuser g33k use case. >>73244 firefox has about:config -> js.enabled;false
Marly Krushkhova · 2023-10-03 13:16
>>73245 >yeah i use librewolf but its still just gonna be sh1t because its forked and presumably patched from the same retards librewolf is pretty good, and the librewolf devs aren't the same people as firefox devs... firefox's main failure is that it is run by a private company that constantly makes terrible decisions and freeloads off the work and adoration of free software enthusiasts. At its core, the tech is ok for a browser, but it's loaded with a bunch of BS that nobody wants. Projects like librewolf have to work constantly to strip all that stuff out so that the browser is usable. It's sort of the "least bad" option for most people, though. You can maybe convince a norman to install firefox, since firefox has basically just tried to copy chrome's UI and a lot of people are trained to think that chrome is the default way to browse the internet. Good luck getting them to even try Falkon or any QtWebEngine-based browser.

fsociety · 2023-10-24 18:17
firefox was already peak garbage in 2009. i literally remember slamming my keyboard every day with that soykaf
Six · 2023-10-24 18:18
remember that for decades firefox had bugs where websites could just make a window float on top of it that you cant close without pkill 9.

Something missed in this thread is that gui design in general today is like kicking dead whales down the beach. It's not just that everything is being designed for mobile. It's also that modern design language and aesthetic tastes since around 2013-2014ish have hyperfocused on flat design. The only alternative presented in this thread is coder minimalism. Coder minimalism is practical and makes sense when you're coding or want a streamlined interface optimized for text. But what about when you're doing literally anything else? Guis used to have texture, they had gradients, they had depth to signify where one part of the interface began and another part ended. Flat design and coder minimalism both do nothing to help me navigate the modern web. They are confusing, eye strain educing and overall just soulless. I wish I had something modern to even show what I want but I don't, it doesn't exist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AItTqnTsVjA&list=PL6PNZBb6b9Lv3ZUSQvvtATkSlSXlZY6Oi&index=28

>>73768 I should clarify more because the screenshot I posted is clearly minimalistic. What I mean is that either expecting every program to look and feel like a LaTeX editor or the most vomit inducing mobile electron based app is utterly mind numbing. There are better uis! Even most linux users today are reinforcing this awful trend, please stop!

>>73247 >firefox has about:config -> js.enabled;false I mean it works but a way more convenient way to disable JabbaShit is to use NoScript or uBlock Origin to do it.
Lord Nikon · 2023-10-25 06:30
>>73771 using an addon isn't good enough, the addon is only preventing javascript from being used to the best of its ability, it can fail to disable javascript, maybe the addon can be bypassed or exploited, you either turn it off or risk using it
Jim Hilger · 2023-10-25 09:42
Do you even need all of that JS crap? I just prefer to use links unless I need to log into a site or something because I also disable all cookies. If your website can't function without JS I won't even look at it. Just use a minimalist browser and pull out that bloated garbage crap when you must have to.
Faye Valentine · 2023-10-25 12:50
>>73776 You might as well say that disabling JavaScript in about:config only disables JavaScript "to the best of it ability".
