Is there a browser or program or something that makes it impossible to procrastinate (watch porn, video games, youtube) on computer or cell phone?
Give me ideas people I'm tired of falling into this cycle and I don't have enough willpower

dual boot, and have one partition for whatever it is you want to do besides procrastination only, change your hosts file to block all procrastination websites on that partition.

That soykaf doesn't work, you will always be able to bypass it if you want to, take it from me. It literally comes down to not bitching and moaning about doing things and just doing it.

I partially agree. My work and leisure are all on the same PC and it's not a problem for me now. But i spent the last decade experimenting different methods to do the things i want to do as opposed to procrastinating them, and these attempts were helpful in figuring out how i work and what prevents me from doing the things i want. While i agree that it's a psychological issue and not a mechanical or situational one, the only way out is understanding what makes you want to procrastinate more than do the things you allegedly want to do.
Sucking it up and doing it is a flawed technique only useful if you want a short burst of productivity, but useless if you want consistency.
Learn about yourself, reach enlightment, fuarrrk the planet's asshole until it cums. It's the only way to be productive and not spend five hours watching video essays every single day.
The Oracle · 2023-08-27 23:32
Nothing will work. And what are you gonna do? Rely on technology to keep yourself in check? The only person who can save you is yourself, fail that and you'll waste away. You do have enough willpower, you know what you're doing is bad, and that it's wrong, so acknowledge it. Quit the porn. You're best off quitting video games as well. Youtube isn't as bad so long as you're not wasting a considerable amount of time watching videos. The most important thing is finding other activities to do in order to fill the time you'd otherwise spend on gaming, jacking off, or watching youtube, it'll reduce the likelihood of you relapsing with porn. Exercise is an easy one to start with, but you can't work out all day long so you'll need other things throughout the week.

I have a userscript that is helpful to me for this, it's pretty simple:
document.body.style.display='none' And then just have the header comment stuff specify what sites it applies to. Of course if you want to bypass it you can easily as others have mentioned. For me it's useful anyway because something that happens a lot is, I end up going to social media completely automatically, forgetting that I ever decided not to, and only remember that I wasn't going to after I've been browsing for a while. This way, the blank page coming up serves as a reminder that I put the block on and I have an opportunity to decide what to do at that time.
Remember, willpower isn't real, so just do it.

It's great that you want to change, but I'm not sure that it's really possible without some kind of kick in the ass, a change in environment, a nice fuarrrking adrenaline rush to reset the brain.

What stopped me from gluing myself to YouTube for several hours straight was following channels I like through newsboat and watching them with mpv. It gets rid of the rabbit holes that YouTube likes to throw at me and now I end up watching around 2 videos a day. I guess if you're on Android then you could use Newpipe for watching YouTube, but you'll still be greeted by the cancerous trending section each time you start it up and related videos will still appear under the videos you watch (there at least isn't a recommended feature).
As for vidya, you could try setting up goals for yourself where each time you do something productive you get to do something in a game. This probably only works well with turn based games, but idk. I wouldn't say you should outright quit gaming in case you relapse like a junkie and never stop playing vidya.

For me it's Tor. Its condition alone blocks most goyslop providers from ever interacting with the browser and what little you can do is still throttled heavily by slow speeds. When you browse the web with Tor you're procrastinating by reading books in-between site refreshes.

of course any tricks like this are just minor inconveniences. if you're smart enough to block through etc hosts you're smart enough to get past it. It will remind you you're not supposed to, but if that was all it takes then you shouldnt be having this problem to begin with.
You could try adding some new element like the judgement of others. By working in a public place where others can see your screen and focusing on the judgement they should be giving you if you're just looking at porn or jewtube, perhaps you can overcome your lazy tendancies.

Something I found strangely helpful to focus:
It's easy to get distracted when you have lots of tabs open
You can setup your browser to block opening new tabs or to open new tabs in a new window and autoclose windows that are idle.
Helped create a mind set of: Go online to do one thing. And once that thing is done get offline.
The extension Unhook is also useful because it blocks the front page and recommendations and comments. Really changes how you use Youtube because now you have to make a conscious choice about what you want to look up and learn about rather than just being guided by recommendations.

NewPipe actually has options to remove those in the settings. It's the best option I've found so far on android. Only sad thing is that you can't remove the trending page from the sidebar, but it's only there if you go out of your way to find it.

Try to organize yourself better.
A pc is like your desktop, if you have toys around , you will get distracted.
> Disable internet
Check if your work needs really internet . If is only a bit, download the needed and switch off everything, there is routers where you can disable internet by device, if nobody more wants it you can even switch off the router . Quit the SIM to your smartphone or switch to a dumb one. Also move it out side of home to another place ( a friend or familiar ) could work. This could helps to not get notifications distracting you. You do the another thing. Carry your laptop to another place where everybody will watch you. You will had to work.
> Clean PC
Like you have a problem, you need go hard. You will need a machine for fun and another for work. The dual boot sounds good but you can carry it more far, like good Lain, have two hard drives, carry with your smartphone the hd for fun far away.
>Learn about GTD ( Get things done )
Everytime you have something in your head, note it and look for it later, even your ideas you plan to do in internet. The trick is write it and let it go for later.
> Focus for a while
You have make to focus your inner monkey to do something productive without any practice. Usually read what are you trying to do again and again and think about how you can do it, and try to start slow. Walk a bit in home, thinking you have to do it

its not a problem because you dont actually try to bypass it. Any modestly intelligent person with knowledge enough of his system to implement such a block can bypass it *trivially*. Blocking only is a poke to remind you of your past intentions.
You can set hosts.conf, you can finagle with routing and DNS and all sorts of soykaf. If I was less drunk I could think of more possibilities. Any sensible system is bypassable. Maybe you use your telephone, maybe you reset your dns rerouting. There's litterally no way to make a block that cannot be dodged. thats just how it is buddy. tuff luck.

Make the habits you don't want hard to do.
e.g. Put the router in a difficult to reach place and switch it off, forcing you to work to be able to procrastinate online.

It won't help. You procrastinate because you hate the work and you're not engaged with it. From my experience, forcing yourself gets you mediocre results and you develop an even bigger aversion to doing the activity.
You sort of have to step back and approach work differently and instead of going against yourself, you have to pay attention to how you feel and interpret it simply as feedback from the environment and how well you're doing. If you feel overwhelmed, break it down and demistify it until it /feels/ doable and you can actually wrap your head around it. If it feels frustrating to do, make it easier, identify the pain points so you can deal with them directly, remove certain implicit restrictions and requirements you have (it has to be perfect, look good, be xyz), treat it like a first draft that you will iterate on and slowly approach the right solution. Any project or task that you attempt will have its own set of challenges and that you need time before you bump into the right way to do things. Try to observe how other successful people are doing it, not how they describe it to you, but how they actually do it because often people can be wholly unaware of how they make things work. Even if you think you've successfully done the thing before, if you did it with the usual brute-force method of just forcing yourself to do frustrating boring work that gets you mediocre results, you might still be able to improve on your approach and the work doesn't have to inherently suck.
Basically, remove the idea that you lack "discipline" implanted in you by unsophisticated redditors and realize that when work feels bad and you feel the urge to procrastinate, there is a reason behind it and stepping back and re-evaluating your approach can save you a lot of headache. Pay attention when the work feels good, it means you're on the right path. That's also when a habit forms, when you find a clear way from A to B and you demonstrate to yourself, your brain tends to want to remember it forever.

"Boring" is just a very low resolution way of looking at things. The work brings up different kinds of disagreeable emotions and sensations that you want to avoid through procrastination. They're just a signal that something is wrong with your approach and that things aren't going well, that you don't have an "optimal grip" on the situation. Depending on how you label these sensations, they will bring in mind different remedies. If it's "boring" then what can be done about it? Nothing, it's accepted in our culture that boredom is simply a barrier to acquiring certain things like a good grade on a test, so you simply suffer through the work without changing anything, ignoring any pesky internal signals until you get some kind of acceptable result. I don't think anyone that's brute-forcing the problem in this way is doing good work in the end.
Alternatively, if you happen to zoom in and perhaps interpret the emotion as "frustration" then you might realize that the problem is simply too big to wrap your head around, you don't know where it starts or ends, you lack a sufficient model, and that feels like soykaf, and perhaps you can try to break things down into manageable chunks or try something radically different. There is no easy prescription I can give because it's ultimately a non-linear problem, there's no algorithm I could give you to always get an "optimal grip" in every situation, you'd basically be god at that point. But it's good to remember, when you feel certain emotions coming up, don't immediately label them and throw in the towel, "OK I guess this isn't for me", rather you interpret them as "I don't currently have an optimal grip, how can I approach the work in a different way?" and then you use positive emotions as a signal that you are bumping into the right path. Sometimes you might need to throw away "common sense" and try things that might seem counter-intuitive. A good heuristic I've found, the generally accepted, most common sense ideas are almost always wrong in some way and this is why the majority of people don't succeed or get extremely mediocre results. It's not as simple as doing the opposite, but often that can be a good way to start.

On your android phone you can use google's parental mode to block all pornography and to also put a maximum of hours per day that you can use apps. You can be your own "parent" with just another google account and to not be possible for you to just log in in the parent account and disable parental mode you can use a website called futureme.org with that you can send an email to the future, send the parent account's password to the future and thats it. Send it a week or two ahead until you find the perfect setup. I personally disabled all web browsers, I have AI apps like ChatGPT, Pi AI and ClaudeAi. With those you dont need google or any website. I also disabled the youtube app.
Because of all this I barely use my phone, I don't waste time online with it before falling sleep, no more ruining my circadian rhythm with blue light. My problem was mostly with porn tho, dealing with the time wasting was just a plus.
I went from masturbating many times a day to doing it every 2 o 3 days one time. Now if I do it I do it on the pc. I'm still trying to find good ways to block porn on the computer, using the host file isn't good, it can be disabled easily. I was going to try blocking it on a router level, buying a router with parental control but then I found out that because of all browsers now having htpps over dns it makes router parental controls useless. Luckily I'll find a way eventually.
For timewasting on the PC you can check some of the extensions in my screenshot, the youtube related ones will improve youtube and remove all the dopamine inducing tricks.

I don't try hard on those things. I just go on and off on things like how I've distrohopped quite a lot in the recent years when I changed hard drives and changed to SSD, or changed from arch to artix and now back to arch and have plenty backlog on dealing with my older notes and organizing my previous plans.
I also pay for my internet as a monthly subscription so sometimes I keep myself off the internet once my unmetered data subscription runs out and I don't plan on spending on it yet so I just bask in the calm and emptyness. I do have metered data on my phone for other important things mostly but when that happens I limit my data consumption to less media and just go on with brainstorming business ideas and honing my self and also discussing meta concept/ideas with free AI tools (such as chatGPT4o and llama3.1) when I plug my keyboard in so I don't fuarrrk my eyesight that much or when I go out and just chill at free wifi to update my apps and chat with AI on ideas.
porn stuff is really not that big of a deal unless you've made it your dopamine center. I sometimes download them but it kind of is like kicking dead whales down the beach since I don't have the patience to watch them anymore so it mostly seems that I'm just hoarding data and it also helps that most of the good porn are behind paywall and I don't have the patience to joining those telegram/reddit/discord groups or those dedicated to compiling these paywalled porn, I just see clips or images or drawings free on twitter and that's it. most of the time I see games and porn as some kind of opportunity centers since I am an artist and it sometimes gives me that aha moment but I haven't really started out my thing, I'm still in the strategy phase which is 75% of what's needed (25% being the execution). I stopped playing that one addictive MOBA game since it takes about an hour to finish a match and the longer the match the more room for griefers so it finally made me quit when they expanded the map further though I still play mostly mobile games since I plan on making mobile games myself though I vehemently avoid gacha since I feel like it's a scam or I simply got out of that "sexy 3d" phase back in PSP era so I've grown out of that.
I don't bother with those tools for limiting like dns-level or whatever self-parental controls. I also stopped caring much about opsec and finally truly see that you can benefit with the algorithm with all that information out there - while it may sound wrong to some I'm not your typical "gnu/foss autist" kind I'm just a hacker who broadens my perspective as I know that being selective is kinda limiting, things like unlocking a samsung or a router requires windows and odin or a exclusive asus flashtool, can't do that with "gnu/foss autism" which I think is more limiting.
I kind of accepted the balance on my consumption (not addiction) to porn, games, creativeness, and other digital and physical stuff though I still have fixation on data hoarding especially as the internet burns, I find myself hoarding things like comm. fonts while I can since I'm a bit of a typographile. I don't consume much books or music but I plan to read financial help books and it also helps that limiting or less exposure to something like music helps with my creativity so I'm not the kind who uses their music subscription 24/7 and I don't even plan or bother to do that.
so all in all I've found that there is a right amount of time to spend on those things, budget your time and don't obsess with one thing, broaden your perspective and sometimes limit or discipline your creativity by not "consuming" or what I may call a digital fasting or cleansing-diet. and most of all I can only suggest others to stop with the opsec meme, it fuarrrking is like kicking dead whales down the beach I know, but I know that I'm in more control of my data it also helps that most devices now indicate when sensitive data/behavior is active on apps so that's a plus, my years worth of soykafposting about it made the world privacy conscious but I gotta suggest them to improve the clipboard since I still find malicious apps hijacking my copied texts, things like those OTP code autofill API which is just clipboard exposure for abusive apps.
you have to broaden your stuff, but firstly avoid things like video games and porn if it has been detrimental especially with video games I find that they're now very childish, it quells your thirst for something challenging or moving fast eyecandy but most games are at least childish now to me, I feel like things that are more challenging is those that are simple such as tetris/tetrio and chess or blitz chess. most of MOBA and other crap is just chess with extra steps and sometimes it is a cesspool, things like RPG and the like these days is mostly just a pokemon clone and it also helps that the nu pokemon games also suck so I stopped with it after the GBA games, most of shooting games also have become p2w and skin flex so I just avoided them after all the old school shooter games became irrelevant but also since most of players have become younger and less competitive I believe games have become less competitive and also introduce dark patterns like hypnosis and other stuff. remember the good stuff always comes in rarity so the real way to play is to find those stuff. I see digital media as 99% garbage and 1% gold, so you have to treat it as such or if not then develop a better taste.

Installed BetterFox https://github.com/yokoffing/Betterfox and all of the sudden my youtube homepage looked like pic related. The amount of time spent mindlessly looking through videos that weren't even of interest to me was getting pretty ridiculous, but this changed all that. You actually have to think about what you want to watch before you click it! This is dramatically more effective than my hosts file where things start with good intentions such as "let me just switch it on to watch a video about socket programming and bittorrent" etc.. Think combining with an RSS feed reader could further reduce searching. Previously was able to achieve something similar but not as effect using the ublock element picker mode sort of cheaper user styles. Presumably that can be done for other websites and strongly suggest taking this sort of methodology.
The actual causes of my recent productivity improvement are more complicated than this, to do with boredom, and distraction from discomfort, but the user.js certainly helped some. Third times the charm in posting this with the spoilers working.
