hi lainons, im trying to find a somewhat decent smartphone to purchase in egypt, since i graduated highschool and just got accepted into college right afterwards (yay!) my dad really wants me to get a new smartphone, because my current 5 years old smartphone is old and slow, this one specifically: https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_y9_(2018)-9112.php (it still works, and the screen surprisingly hasn't broken on me yet lol) what is yall's recommendation? everyone in egypt is shilling for xiaomi, but im doubting their quality so far. i am looking for a phone that can last a very long time with me, and is fairly repairable, and must be rootable ofc and has custom roms/GSI availability i consume content on Newpipe, Kotatsu, KurobaEx and RSS (and slsk if that counts) headphone jack and bluetooth are a must ofc thanks, and have this fanart of lain i made

I've been using a redmi note 8 pro with LineageOS since 2020 and its still working just fine, apart from the inevitable battery degradation. It has pretty much everything you listed, though I can't vouch on it's reparability as it hasn't broken on me yet. I have seen this model, along with other old-ish mid range Chinese phones on second hand websites for pretty cheap. Also, nice fanart.

>>72324 Xiaomi's hardware is fine. It's the software that is like kicking dead whales down the beach (they have razor-thin profit margins and have to make up for it somehow). If you want a custom ROM where everything just "works" (by custom ROM standards), I'd try LineageOS. Here's a link to their supported devices page. You can filter stuff too. Find a few models you like and see if they're available in your country. https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/ GSIs are also a thing, but I wouldn't recommend them if you absolutely need your phone to be reliable.

>>72324 As a fellow Arab lainon (Tunisian) I wouldn't recommend anything Chinese or Indian (Xiami, Oppo, Modern Huawei and most notably that Infinix thing): very low quality hardware and terrible support of all kinds paired with a general feeling of 3rd worldness and ads everywhere in the UI. I would recommend Samsung all the way, from the options we have, they are the best by far with great repairable hardware and 5 years of updates and headphone jacks for non-flagships. You cannot go wrong with them, I've been using mine for 3 years now and I have yet to notice any kind of major problems and the screen is in a great state. Can't vouch for ROM support on it though.

>>72535 I have a RedMi Note 8 Pro too but I couldn't see it on devices page of LineageOS site. May I ask where did you get it from?

>>72324 You should just buy a Google Pixel which you can run GrapheneOS on. If you really are interested in extreme repairibility and good environmental and ethical practices you could buy a Fairphone. Other than that just see which phones support custom ROMs and are easy to root.

Too late but if you're willing to get Xiaomi, I had experience with them and they're certainly great, they gain most of their profit via adware and bloat, if you've 1h at most free, take it and invest it in unbloating the heck out of the device and you'll certainly not regret it.

>>72554 Samsung is great too, especially their latest devices, but if got no option Xiaomi exists, overall a valid opinion you got there dear lainon.
