What are some good e-readers do you guys suggest? Won't choose kindle since it is trash on PDF and amazog trackers

Pocketbook. I bought mine like 5 years ago and it works great. You can put any pirated PDF or epub on it and it works great. The battery holds for a long time.

I have used a few Kobo units and those are snappy. Currently using the Forma and have zero complaints.

I tend to break my ebooks, so I've had a few. (pic related) Tried two models from denver electronics. They have no ads or store! Tend to have more physical buttons, which could be worth your gamble, because other e-books prefer touchscreen. The newer model was... notacibly worse than the older; completely different software. Did some light probing but couldn't get shell access on them. I've also had two kobos and a tolino. Default installation UI is heavily focused on selling you ebooks. They also rely on touchscreens, and the gestures for the tolino are crude. The tolino also loses in file-format support. None of that really matters, though, because kobo and tolino have an internal SD card for the OS that any hacker could modify. There even exist a full replacement OS for them, which is quite decent and very acceptable! As a bonus; Calibre is an program for your PC, it can turn RSS and webpages into excellent e-books. I just need a better script to get images included in lainchan threads.

I recently bought a Hisense Touch device to do my reading because it's pocketable and runs Android 11. Bought it off of Aliexpress and am very happy with it. I feel like because it's so pocketable it makes it easier for me to read more books because whenever I have some extra time out and about or where ever I can easily pull it out and read a book instead of scrolling on my phone. I do my reading on the device with Moon+ Reader which is quite nice actually letting me turn pages with the volume up and down buttons.

>>69686 >front-facing camera I am of two minds on a lot of these Chinese devices. On one hand, they seem like a refreshing reprieve from the western e-ink platform monopolies designed to stifle an era of what should be an era of unfettered access to literacy. On the other hand, you can see review videos of them being chock-full of pre-installed spyware apps for the Chinese markets. Similar in that everything is designed to restrict ownership of tech and oppress its "owners", but in different ways. See if you can install Librera on that thing. I think the F-droid version of that is better than the non-paid version of Moon+. Too bad about the lack of an SD card slot.

Kobo. Use the sqlite trick to avoid creating an account and use koreader/plato via fmon (or https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314220 if you're a babby).

I recommended pic rel > MicroSD card slot > screen backlight > AOSP android rooted by default with no google soykaf except MicroG which you can delete > It can run emacs! (yeah, does exist official android version https://f-droid.org/packages/org.gnu.emacs/ ) > official case is pretty decent I recommended using with KOReader, Librera reader (for audiobooks), RHVoice (for TTS), Relaunch. > USB OTG could successfully compete with pinenote if not for the fact that the drivers are probably proprietary. sorry if it's sounds like ad but i'm really content with this.

>>70395 so this is based and open ebook reader? for about 135USD (550PLN in Poland) good price i think
Hagbard Celine · 2023-06-14 08:59
>>70397 and 20 USD (80 PLN) for case and in poland i can buy it for cash, which is rather hard to do with pinenote. Probably most libre e-reader available.

I've been using the Kobo Libra 2 for over a year now, great little device. With KOReader, anyway. Don't bother with Nickel. Mostly using it for manga but it works for the thing it's designed for too, which is nice.

>>70484 How is it stability wise? last time I checked there were a lot of problems on that device with no obvious solution.
Sipho Nkosi · 2023-06-18 05:58
>>70487 Not perfect, there's definitely stability problems, but it has gotten much better and is good for daily usage. A few months into owning it I had to factory reset because it was stuck in a boot loop for no reason but I haven't run into that issue since. I take it as the price I have to pay for buying hardware only a couple months after it is released and expecting KOReader to have caught up to it by then. It did, it just wasn't perfect. When I first got it, it would crash once or twice a month, however now I haven't had a crash in several months and as expected, functionality that was previously broken/unavailable now works well. The only problem I still have with it is the boot times with many files. I have thousands of books on it, and it takes several minutes to start. Lain will undoubtedly not run into this problem unless she fancies carrying a library of books with her everywhere, like me. I don't boot it often as it spends most of its time sleeping, so I haven't gone and looked to see what's even causing it. Oh, and it supports Bluetooth but I've never used it and I doubt KOReader supports it. I do recall there being a second revision of the hardware which is less supported and more prone to crashing? I'm not sure about the support for that, I just remember seeing a bug fix for it.

I use an ancient $30 Kindle from Craigslist with none of the wireless soykaf enabled. There are 0 distractions on it. Press the power button -> you're reading. I had to replace the battery on it, and now I don't remember the last time I've charged it. The few minutes it is plugged into my computer while I fuarrrk around opening Calibre is probably enough for weeks of my reading time.
