My in-laws want to install cctv on one of their properties and they want my help.
I got no clue about cctv. Can you fellas recommend me a brand and set-up?
Budget hasn't been discussed, so if you have low-end and high-end examples I'd appreciate it. Also NAS and no-NAS variants would also be nice.

Turning the world into a dystopian surveillance nightmare to protect their stuff from marauding hordes of criminals seems to be quite popular among Boomsters these days. Is paranoia the final stage of lead poisoning?
Sure is fun trying to guess what word is triggering your stupid filter list, appleman.

Cameras are cool; you sound calloused and draining to be around.

not him but on the topic of surveillance abuse there was a guy on here who complained his dad put up cameras around his house and posted a few pictures and very soon after someone posted live feed of those cameras and said "show him this" or something along those lines, which then prompted a thread full of hacked security cameras from around the world, even some in ukraine and russia in the heat of the conflict. I'm not gonna tell you whether or not to install security cameras but I will tell you that with anything you do you need to have caution and really weigh out the pros and cons.

I made a security camera by connecting a webcam to a server and using ffmpeg to create a separate video file every hour. I'm not sure how to do it actually sensibly and user friendly though, maybe look into https://zoneminder.com/

anyone know how to fuarrrk up cameras without it looking like sabotage but rather as defective? trying kill them with magnets has no effect. Parents have soykaf security and think cameras and flood lights are all thats needed. Pretty much ignore my recommendations when it comes to actual security.
