Drones: what does Lain use them for? What sort of attack vectors do they open up that haven't been widely considered? Has anybody tried to actually compromise one?
Drones, like VR, are another technology that were hyped up as if they were going to change the world--in the decade or so of their relative popularity, I haven't seen that materialize. Why is that?
>relatively inexpensive flying cameras (helicopter shots, FPV, etc)
>could theoretically deliver/move stuff (???)
>army uses bigger ones to murder people I guess
Another thread pointed out some very obvious consumer issues with VR--drones, at least, seem to evade most of those issues and have a fairly stable market (i.e. they serve a small set of use cases reliably well)...it seems to me there's a very high potential for these devices, and at the same time I just can't really think of good reasons to own/use them. What's going on with this technology?

I learned to fly a cheap quadcopter drone and practiced with it for like a year before I got bored. It's surprisingly tricky, though probably the more expensive ones have smoother controls. I'm glad I didn't start with one of those because I crashed it many times and almost lost it more times.
What is the potential you see? They are powerful but the type of power they provide trends towards military, isn't permitted to normal people and there are tons of laws now restricting their use.
One use I've always kind of fantasized about is a fleet of fully automated drones with solar panels finding places to hide out and recharge, flying away if discovered, and broadcasting a wireless network to route around censorship of some sort in an adversarial environment. This is probably not ever going to be necessary or practical though.

Mobile drone meshnets are a neat idea, you could probably make a lot of money as a tech startup, get bought out by a large company, become a millionaire.
Even if the idea never takes off, companies like Starlink don't like more economical competition, and amazon has the infrastructure to scale a project to compete.
You just need a savvy businessman to sell your idea
