Last thread reached the reply limit! Thanks for the many (amusing) replies! What do you carry with you every day? What kind of tech? I personally carry the following: - Sharp Aquos Keitai (Android, rooted) - Nintendo 3DS for that Streetpass^tm cred - Trusty Casio gimmicky watch - AfterShokz for maximum hearing and LARPing - Wallet with tech soykaf - Glockussy What do you have with you? >>66797 I ran the n900 for a solid year until i got me an android flip phone. There are still software maintained for n900 over at maemo forums. You can also run full scale debian applications but it's really really slow. This think has a really bad processor. I usually did my stuf using the stock terminal, which was locked down on maemo. You have to soykaf to get a root command yourself and whatnot. You can instead also use a custom os with i3wm, which is better and less locked down the stock linux it comes with. check out this: https://elinux.org/N900 and https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Nokia_N900 have fun!

EDC implies I leave the house at all lol. But when I do, it is knife, two phones and wallet. Oh and a zippo. Nobody should leave the house without fire.
Haruyoshi · 2023-02-02 05:43
>>66996 Does a zippo evaporate quickly if you're not using it a lot (smoking)? I heard if you want fires for emergencies you'd take a bic lighter instead of a zippo. Gotta admit I love a guy who pulls out a zippo whenever someone asks for a light though.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2023-02-02 11:40
>>66999 Zippos aren't much good for anyone who isn't a smoker for that reason. Better than either would be an IMCO Triplex or similar. They still lose fluid to evaporation, but much slower than a Zippo does and they're more generally useful than either a Zippo or a Bic.
Meddler · 2023-02-02 11:45
one can also just keep a sparker, such as the magnesium rods to go on keychains. they last basically forever, but rather less convenient to use. Modern matches are very shelfstable if you keep them dry. Bics, too in my experience.
J.C. Denton · 2023-02-02 11:52
>>67005 Not sold on the usefulness of a magnesium firestarter as an EDC item. Without a tinderbox and unless you're planning on starting a fire in the middle of the floor at your workplace, I don't see the application. >>67044 Such an opinion is entirely irrelevant; the right to own weapons (and all others, for that matter) is guaranteed by the ownership of said weapons. An unarmed populace is only ever one bad day away from unstoppable tyranny. I suspect we'll see just such a condition once again imposed on Europe's terminally harmless population very soon.

>>67047 I don't care and don't believe in your conspiracy. I want the cops to be disarmed too or at least severely limited ( revolver only, only 4 round of live ammunition, doctrine to always prefer batons and pepper spray and taser, sharpshooter requirements to make precision min lethal shots) There is no big bad gov. Only people. I'd much rather be an unarmed person in the face of a tyranny that'll never appear than live every single day in fear of a psycho with a gun
fsociety · 2023-02-04 13:36
>>67048 Then you'll always be a slave in waiting. That's fine too, but you can't expect others to play along. The general inertia of all of human history can hardly be called conspiracy. The notion that those in power will be disarmed and won't abuse their power once everyone is disarmed is laughably childish. Humans have been on this planet for around 2 million years and there's no evidence to suggest it has ever worked that way even once. "sharpshooter requirements to make precision min lethal shots" is a total fantasy that belies a complete lack of subject matter knowledge, by the way. Precision weapons are lethal and nonlethal weapons are imprecise.

I can't tell if you're a European or merely a child, but either way it's obvious who doesn't know what they're talking about. I will commend you for consistency though; In a battle wits or weapons, you clearly approach either the same way: completely unarmed.

Not sure if it's to the same quality or not though.

>>67776 I like pretty notebooks, I get homemade ones from a local stationary store. I use a fine point refillable zebra pencil M-301. Pencils are a soykaf tho. get a nice pen. Pens require you to think about what you are going to write since they are permanent. I haven't used my pencil for anything other than work (required) since I was in grade 1. Pens let you accessorize and modify ink thickness, smoothness, colour, and pen weight. Pencils are basically all the same, few standard lead size options and unless you are drawing, most people use no.2 lead. Not sure who uses mechanical for drawing, and carpentry pencils are cheap as fuarrrk for most workplace sites and can be sharpened with a knoif.
Turner · 2023-03-09 21:16
>>67793 >GunCuts just started doing optics cuts At least they offer a cut for the RMRcc if nothing else. >>71225 I almost got shot the other day. I believe a gun is a necessity at all times now. I was about 10-15 feet away so pepper spray or a knife would not have saved me if I tried to use it. That being said, pepper spray or a knife may be a good way to stop a threat that is not armed, but if they have a gun, then they're likely to shoot you in response. At least where I live, this is true. Also, pepper spray and knives are not useful beyond arm distance if the attacker has a ranged weapon. I would like to know what other forms of self defense >>71223 was talking about though. Once I get my gun I'll carry it, and a knife, on me at all times. I understand some people think this is too much, but I don't want to ever look down the barrel of a gun ever again without some way to save myself.

>>71257 Not sure what you're babbling about, I didn't say a word about pain compliance. Police understand this by the way and it's one of the reasons they are trained to keep their distance from suspects.
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2023-07-20 17:04
>>71265 most of this comes from the fact that someone close can be on you very quickly, and whatever weapon you have will take time to draw and make useful. The point is to have your gun out when you get close to someone dangerous, not switch to your sword when the range gets below fifteen feet. Cops are in a different boat than random people though, assumed to be armed, holding a certain status and attention drawing power.

Junichi Fujiwara · 2023-08-19 16:26
>>71879 Usually with "no dine in" restaurants, which in my area make up a majority especially since the pandemic, you pay before you get the food. Even if there is a small dine in area, it's often expected that you go to a counter to order and pickup the food, paying on the spot. Places where you pay after will usually take whatever if it means getting payed- they're just not very common around here. I don't dine out too often, but most of what i do consists of the cheaper end of the scale where this is pretty much the norm. Again it's not like there's no restaurants that'll take cash, it's just that many (a majority) do not. Even so, eating out isn't something i do all that often, it was just an example (grocery stores, the bus, and the fact that getting cash in the first place requires a payment card, are much more influential on my decision). But yes, I think it's fair to say that in this "single city in north america" restaurants "do not like to take cash". I'm sure there are places, but i have yet to find a place here where i can purchase condoms with cash.

>>73182 >neurosuggesting guns don't require a lot of tech What about optical sighting systems What about laser sights What about special high tech ammunition What about rangefinders What about corner shot It would make my day if a lain EDCs one of those Weapons should be part of any edc where there is a reasonable threat to you being in a gun fight. On the other hand, most people are not really under threat of being in a gun fight, and even fewer would know what to do becasue of a lack of training, so does it really require spending 1-4 months of discretionary income? I used to EDC a combat pistol, but there was too much of a risk, I had to go through multiple metal detectors regularly where I could get arrested (strict gun laws), and I only went from work to home and the corner store for food. It was easier to just leave it at home, especially after I stopped living in a literal soykafhole where my neighbors did try to kill me. The moral of the story, don't piss off drug dealers and gang bangers, and don't spend money or effort on soykaf you don't need. When my GF questioned why I had a gun, told her if my neighbors want to fuarrrk around and start soykaf, I'm going to end it for them. I was in a pretty bad place after coming back from war to be honest I hated seeing junkies on my street, and the vandalism and gang threats on a weekly basis was soykaf. My EDC now is just my house key, wallet, and work phone and a knife if I am going outdoors or a lockpick set in case I might need it. >>73398 to some degree its a political statement even if its concealed. Like the Sikhs with their knives, the American with his EDC firearm is partially carrying it to show even just to himself that he's a free citizen. The gun is a symbol of independence and freedom, as modern weapons have always been. It also does have occasional use, and the theory is of course that if you ever do need to use it, you likely will really need to use it and want it immediately available. Of all the people I know in America who carry firearms none have to my knowledge fired one in anger in America, but most of them do practice and go out hunting once in a while at least. Also useful against hostile animals, which we do have over here. When I was a kid my parents wanted me to carry a cellphone so I could call the emergency hotline if I needed to. I've literally never called it in my life, but people consider it possibly useful. Carrying a gun accomplishes an overlapping goal but with more self empowerment.

Guns can also be a great deterrent to someone threatening you with a lesser weapon. They can stop robberies (most criminals actually don't want a fight). Guns are actually very practical tools for self defense. You can't always run away pepper spray can backfire since it leaves a cloud of pain and doesnt have range you can't always "beat them up" - florida junkies can fight off 4 cops while jacking off.

Erik Johansson · 2024-03-13 19:26
>>76244 >>76245 >>76246 As the only white dude in the ghetto, unironically, I can address some of these. Carrying a gun to stop a mass shooting is a bit of a meme, just like carrying it to defend yourself from others with guns. The lethal range of a gun is long enough that you can be killed without yourself being in range to shoot the shooter. Second, most people carry guns but don't have enough experience to actually draw it when they would need to. If you die in a driveby then you aren't exactly in a gun fight. In the end carrying a gun is just a lawyers wet dream. If you have hollow points it's because "you are a psychopath who wanted his targets to explode" and if you have armour piercing rounds, it is because you "want to kill cops" and are a bad person. Also in most cases, AP rounds are considered illegal for exactly that reason. I won't say that it is overkill, but I will say that a poorly trained "good guy" with a gun is just as bad as a bad guy with a gun. Unless you open carry or are good at concealed carry quick draw, then the odds of someone closing the distance on you before you can get your gun out are high. Especially if they have a gun out. You can't just go around shooting bad people unless you have a good lawyer or want to risk serious jail time and prejudice. Being friendly with your neighbours and not acting like an easy target or victim will get you more respect than carrying a gun will. Also, you underestimate the power of people in packs. With concealed carry you get the element of surprise. Most trannies don't know how to look for people reaching. >In the end carrying a gun is just a lawyers wet dream In the real world a lot of lawyers carry weapons. especially considering their line of work. >Unless you open carry or are good at concealed carry quick draw, then the odds of someone closing the distance on you before you can get your gun out are high. Especially if they have a gun out completely subjective to the situation - if you can see the back of their ear you have a good 2 whole seconds to draw. That's pretty good odds. >Being friendly with your neighbours and not acting like an easy target or victim will get you more respect than carrying a gun will. I agree - a gun is not a tool to command respect. It's a tool for self defense. >you underestimate the power of people in packs. Exactly why I own a rifle as well. While there are examples of people doing stupid soykaf in situations with CCW it still is sometimes the ONLY method of controlling a situation until help arrives (minutes later). If it is something that isn't hard for you to find on your own, or if it's something that most people should/would probably already know, then you don't need to be sourcing whatever it is you are saying. Another issue is that if you spoonfeed, you're actually disrespecting the intelligence of the individual you are talking to. It's also a form of gatekeeping, because it keeps retards out. A retard will think "Wow, this community just makes soykaf up." and, hopefully, just leave or become disinterested in further discussion. By the way, either quit being new (lurk) or quit being intellectually dishonest (more likely the case) Of course, there are expections where you're expected to provide sources, but those are not spoonfeeding. And to people who think that the semantics and precise definitions don't matter for these things, its pretty clear there's a lot of motivated tabulation on both sides of this issue. First, it's not hard to put "Gun that stopped mass shootings" -- Then you can make your goalpost move and instead start to write things like "oh but its actually just not common / rare / etc." from "It never happens." The thing is, if we're talking about the U.S., the entire point of the 2A is to be a threat to the government. If they overstep, you kill them. Simple as. It's not because of "hunting", it's for self-defence (from tyranny.) People are always trying to make changes when they have a lot of different options of places they can live that already practice those values. What about where I want to live? The incompatibility argument only leads to violence, so what's the real move? You ban guns, then what? You probably enforce policies that would make people wish they hadn't derezzed guns, right?

Another underrated item is a Japanese hand towel, or Tenugui, which you can use for a number of reasons in case you cant find hand towels, it also has survival/first aid uses, or can be worn as a fashion statement. If you aren't a weeb, carry a Hankerchief.

>>76407 >are you really going to need x every single day I think the question is really about expected average daily net utility. A pen is not particularly useful imho, but its modestly useful fairly regularly, and its pretty small, so why not. A decent knife is, if you ask me, more useful more regularly. takes up a bit more space and weight, but still expected positive. A trauma kit is a harder question, if you need it it could be extremely useful, but most people can live their lives without ever needing it at all. Hopefully everyone knows what theyre liable to run into and can make some sane judgements; some people really need USB drives. Some people, alien as I find them, seem to not understand wanting a pocket knife.

Notebook-carriers: how do you use them? I have a semi-used Rite in the Rain scribbled with random notes (which reminds me: I have lots of random notes to myself and I'm not sure I'll ever get to them) and some other pocket-sized notebooks. I have recently been interested in keeping a daily journal of sorts (though, is this feasible on a small notebook I can carry anywhere?) to keep, e.g. day-to-day track of transactions as well as tasks to do and plans/resolutions. However, I don't know where to start. For some reason I'm reluctant to get a pre-made planner, although I think I've found one that pretty much has everything I want/need (perhaps it's just too expensive)—what say you?
Nanashi No Gombe · 2024-06-14 14:26
>>78045 I keep a small notebook (~A5, 100p) with me most of the time when I travel. It is a bit too big to keep in a pocket, but it fits easily in any bag. I use it as a diary, dream journal as well as to scribble random notes. I don't really like pre-made planners, because I don't need every day's page and the pages I need are too small. Also the printed stuff interferes with my scribbles.

I hope you don't mind more questions, but is it pretty much just `2024-06-15` whenever you start a new day, then you write things from there? Most of what I write I don't really want easily searchable so I never did that. Current Everyday Carry: - Wallet - Pocket Bible I've considered adding a few minor things to the list of everyday carries. Specifically, a swiss army knife and a flashlight. I may also consider a raincoat, umbrella, or something else of that sort in the case I'd need it. I like to keep my EDC very lightweight, and since I usually don't need much, I don't bring much. I may consider a bugout bag in events where I would need more gear, but that likely wouldn't be too useful given I am already in a rural area and don't leave my house particularly often.
