how do we solve the "have these people ever used a computer?" problem in the tech industry?
i picked up a random mechanical keyboard from the shop for $150
when it boots (yep, it has an OS), the lights animate for 3 seconds while you cant press any key
when the PC is booting, it does this twice as most OSes / PC hardware will power the keyboard on several times during various stages
then the "app" for controlling the keyboard loads and shuts the LEDs
the LEDs also flicker at around 40Hz, a slow enough rate that its known to be visible to 99.9999% of people
just looking at the a key then the p key, you will see a fuarrrk ton of flicker, like youre at a rave
have these people ever used a computer?
i picked up a random LCD from the shop for $600
when it boots (yep, it has an OS), the lights animate for 3 seconds
and a logo is displayed for 5 seconds
after around 10 seconds it will show an image
also changing mode or refresh rate causes another 10 seconds of black
with PC hardware, the monitor will be powered on several / mode switched several times during various stages as it boots
you cant even see the POST
even in windows if you ever change the resolution (or just refresh rate), you get that 15 second countdown for you to press OK before it reverts
have these people ever used a computer?
why has this problem not changed in 10 years?
have these people ever used a computer?

How about just not purchasing gaymur garbage and buy a regular keyboard and monitor that do exactly what a keyboard and monitor are designed to do, all at a fraction of the price compared to their gaymur equivalents? What's the incentive to pay extra? The RGB rainbow barf and the flickering lights like OP described?

well to be quite fair it's your fault anyways. I can't even comprehend why someone would spend $150 over a suboptimal mechanical keyboard. a top-tier low-profile scissor-switch costs about $40 and obliterates any sub $200 mkb
you could also test the hardware over the shop as you browse. unless you purchased it online or just socially inept then maybe.
gaming market is no different than audiophilia mental illness these days.
they add these "rgb lights" which allegedly improve your KDA (kill death assist).
it's literally no different than those audiophile crystals you put on top of your amp which allegedly improve sound quality. I haven't seen actual gaming gear defeat a laser mouse with high-polling rate from 2011. they should at least have made usb3 gaming mice or keyboard but that's diminishing returns due to usb3 interference and the fact higher throughput means more errors.
they don't even label their mouse sensors and the ones on the current market are even worse (those pixart crap). mouse sensor is just a camera, you want a high-speed camera for that job and the higher resolution ones (up to 3600dpi mouse and above) are just camera that have upscales and interpolation. a good mouse camera (even on phones or actual camera) are the ones with good night sensor (so laser-litt ones are better). the thing is in america it's even illegal to make laser sensors somehow.
there are better things to look for on a keyboard such as key rollover or for a mouse, how much interpolation it actually does. most new sensors are slow at low DPI but the thing is that's because they're downscaling the sensor data and it is a slow job (soykaf algorithm, or programming, that even a 1ghz cpu mouse is having a hard time lol). even the most professional e-sports gamers use low-dpi settings but gaming market insists "moar dpi" or on the keyboard placebo market "moar bloat (and useless customizations)"
then you have these "240hz" display framerate stuff which are actually placebo.
most people can't even tell apart 72hz from 90hz or even 240hz but there may be few exceptions while the truth is regardless of that "speed" it's still degraded by how ungodly slow a entry-level IPS/VA is at grey-to-grey response (which is literally visible).
it's like that audiophile "386kHz" output audio which people literally don't even need. the thing is it should be the microphone resolution not the output resolution and if ever the higher one is better it's simply due to how the chip handles the signal which is a design issue. a display might underperform on 60Hz this is due to signaling issue and work fine above 72Hz. there's even no guarantee that a better framerate display is actually not dropping frames due to a display signal issue.
the thing is you should've seen how slow those stuff work.
your question "have these people ever used a computer?" is a rhetoric since these same new mid-20s people may "have not ever seen how fast old computer components work".
same is true with phones. I still feel newer smartphones are way too slow compared to dumb phones from long ago (assuming that dumb phone has not degraded its flash/eeprom yet!). even smartphones had to cheat with hybrid boot and the like (which compromise security to cellebrite lmao). modern day technology is just a complete sh1tsh0w to be honest.

> laser sensors somehow.
*laser-lit mouse
well you get the point. there are many things to look out for if you've used stuff before so just make your personal "minimum requriements or go home" list.
when I get a usb wireless dongle I always make sure it works with my current linux kernel and check the chip but also check its jitter (including ethernet cables too!).
for displays I make sure they're faster than my old trusty TN display that boots up for 2 seconds and just as fast when it comes to response time.
for phones I make sure they're not bloated and way slower than my old trusty nokia from ~2010.
for keyboard, I make sure I wouldn't have to fiddle anything let alone take it apart "to make it more functional or give it form" but also I don't want the keys shaking as it feels unstable. no key rollovers.
for mouse, I haven't really found anything good. I just pick the ones with kinetic scrolling and horizontal scrolling, they're still soykaf regardless as most new mouses use soykaftier sensor and interpolates/downscales so bad they work like soykaf on either max or min dpi (when compared to my old laser-lit mouse).
they don't even sell laser-lit mouse for american brands like logi, I think it's because of american laws about lasers or just for the benefit of a larger market (which means no need for time-frame/costs for approval). I just need a better mouse, also they did stop shipping mouse and keyboard with ferrite cables since it was "deemed illegal" by fcc. the thing is this is kinda a scam when you find out wireless mice/keyboard are all compromised to the point it should be illegal to sell them!

Build your own keyboard nigga
Grab a bare LCD panel and an LCD driver board and build your own monitor nigga
Git gud
Unknown · 2023-01-22 19:29
The keyboard thing is your own retarded fault. The monitor thing is a mixture of low power regulatory requirements, value engineering, and cramming half baked features. What you end up with is all of the logic being run through a grossly underpowered microprocessor that takes too long to do anything. Oh and also HDCP handshakes. DRM truly is the gift that keeps on giving.

While it does sound like OP is bad at buying stuff, (putting it gently) he does raise a good question. Like, there's no way these manufacturers looked at products like OP describe and went "This soykaf garbage. Produce it." Even at such a high price. They really can't spare a few profits for QA???
I know it's all rhetorical what i'm asking. Of course they did say that and of course they don't wanna spend in QA, money matters and if it can fool suckers like OP that's all that matters. Like OP, I'm just tired of all the waste created by these leeches.

The only based answer in this thread. build soykaf, become cyperbunk

>Like, there's no way these manufacturers looked at products like OP describe and went "This soykaf garbage. Produce it."
Well, if what OP is telling is true then there is a reasonable explanation as to how this could have happened. What if the hardware was built and the guy programming the keyboard never booted up his computer with it since he wasn't using it as his main keyboard and therefor never noticing the issue? Or maybe they ran out of time or money? Or maybe they really did not give a fuarrrk, but I find that hard to believe.

Had some problem with my monitor being slower to boot than POST, you can work around that by pressing the pause key, then POST will stop and wait for your input.
I have never dealt with a keyboard that does not accept input immediately though, even USB ones. Look for a no nonsense mechanical keyboard like Filco.
Judge Fang · 2023-01-24 07:42
You're all idiots. Just tried power off and on all monitors in the store, the best timing was 5s which is still insanely long.

>for displays I make sure they're faster than my old trusty TN display that boots up for 2 seconds and just as fast when it comes to response time.
holy
Get a load of this fuarrrkjob. 2 seconds is the time it takes for a __CRT__ to turn on. The LCDs around 1999 took 500ms to turn on. And whatever the fuarrrk response time nonsense you're on about is just wrong. LCDs all have extremely bad motion blur regardless of response time, but the response time is still bad on all of them.
Tomohisa "Tom" Kanezaki · 2023-01-28 05:37
>>66842
You're right. 2 seconds is too much and I thought it's quick enough relative to the OP which is 13 seconds. My TN one actually boots up immediately and shows the logo for like 300ms if not in standby mode, changing refresh rates (changing tty etc) take 300ms so something like 600ms if I booted up the monitor with a higher refresh rate and 300ms if the monitor was actually in standby mode (assuming it wasn't unplugged for a long time).
>LCDs all have extremely bad motion blur regardless of response time
That's true but "competitive speedrunning" old games aren't my thing.
Anything that can show text clearly with 60px/sec autoscroll is good enough for me.
My only problem is dithering is too much these days. My eyes are too sensitive to it and the only screen I've seen not do dither is (samsung) OLED which also surprisingly doesn't have that much EMF (as measured, probably because it doesn't do voltage fluctuations-based dithering).
Everything has this horizontal lines for IPS and gives me slight eyestrain. I miss the TN days. CRT? I don't miss much, my eyes are too sensitive and I can hear the high frequency it produces.
kosshi · 2023-03-25 10:53

My CRT takes like 7 seconds to start up from complete power-off. But the boot-up sequence is quite arousing to listen to. A particle accelerator this advanced is worthy of running what OP calls an operating system.
>>66904
>CRT? I don't miss much, my eyes are too sensitive and I can hear the high frequency it produces.
These issues are more relevant with CRT TVs, not monitors. These things run at frequencies you cannot hear (>100khz), and refresh rates you cannot see the flicker of (85-200hz).

Not really true

no one thinks this

No one thinks this. Retards in audiophile comm. believe that it makes a difference if you use a cable made of silver instead of copper. Most believe that you can get better headphones than the soykafty earbuds that came with your phone which is true
>mouse sensor is just a camera
no it isnt

true

I'm concerned for your brain if you cannot see the difference between 60hz and 144hz. When you go higher the differences become negligible but you can hardly call this a placebo

higher refresh rate cuts motion blur which also is far more perceptible than anything from the pixel response curve - at 60hz you literally cannot see anything while moving at more than 1px / frame (even then its slightly blurry)
60hz is easily distinguishable from 75Hz and 120hz from 240hz, even just considering fluidity
id rank pixel response curve much lower than refresh rate on a scale of perceptibility.
but like you say (assuming u actually understand the issue), at 240Hz you need much faster LC transitions and indeed most monitors do not achieve it so you have smearing (still far less smearing than something like a 1995 LCD at 60hz with 20-60ms pixel response).
>a display might underperform on 60Hz this is due to signaling issue and work fine above 72Hz. there's even no guarantee that a better framerate display is actually not dropping frames due to a display signal issue.
frame dropping is an uncommon issue but some monitors do indeed fuarrrk up so bad that they have it. from 1995-2010 at least, they mostly all supported any refresh rate what so ever around 58hz, 59.123666555hz, 60hz, 75hz, 75.5hz, 75.55hz, 75.555hz, without any frame dropping. you cant even have frame dropping in a natural implementation. in that era only the rare one off retardation like the NEC LCD2070NX which has some custom garbage fuarrrks up and drops frames every second. i suspect its more common now with the gaymer sh.t acer asus aoc msi benq have been rolling out.
>>66811
>for displays I make sure they're faster than my old trusty TN display that boots up for 2 seconds and just as fast when it comes to response time.
who the fuarrrk gets a monitor for its boot time? 2 seconds is basically the bare minimum with current bloated misoncieved garbage.
>hurr durr muh response time
whatever u believe is wrong, whereas previous guy i replied to actually has a small chance that his sh.t isnt retarded. for starters, any 60Hz VA/IPS made in the last 10 years or so has no response time issue, solely because the motion blur covers it up. motion blur is the exact same, visually, as slow pixel response. youll have 10pixels of motion blur in a scene, and one pixel of smearing from slow pixel response. the fact that you niggers choose to complain about the 1/10th problem and pretend to notice it and be able to distinguish the 10x worse problem which is literally the same smearing but 10x as big really shows your retardation.
