I just made the leap to Linux today (Mint, MATE)
My Wifi adapter (Alfa AWUS036ACM) seemed to be working perfectly fine apart from the fact that the 5G version of my wifi was not showing up as an option, only the 2G. I would really appreciate it if any more experienced Linux users could help me out here. Thanks!

Mint user here (based Xfce tho).
It may be more likely your wifi adaptater can't use 5Ghz wifi protocol. Use 2.4Ghz instead.
