The company I work for is starting to implement fingerprint scanner machines for clock-in and out due to some people doing it for others, since we use cards with NFC chips. Obviously I don't trust the system with my biometrics and they're probably stored in a server by a 3rd party company.
My question is, is it worth me sanding down my fingers to prevent it from reading, or are they so advanced now they don't require the ridges to be there anymore? If that doesn't work, what else can I do? The time I register my finger will be with a manager and he'll make me clean my finger in case it's dirty, so forget grease, dirt and paint.
Not really looking to leave either, since more and more companies will implement it and this one is a 5 minute walk from home and I've got my job quite secured.

if you work in a non clean environment it'd be pretty easy to just have fingers too dirty, it wouldnt read, and would get dirty to not working at all quickly. you could raise complaints about it not working. maybe they'll bail the idea if it ends up not working anyway.
as for avoiding it initially theres a chance its not covered in your contract which would mean they have to send a separate form for you to agree to if they want to just collect/use that info.
worth reading up on laws related to it in your country. ultimately besides threatening to leave theres not a whole lot you can do sadly enough

Can you mold a random finger somewhere and show that to the machine :D

Band-aids on your fingers should work fine.

Well it's in the UK, so they can basically do whatver the fuarrrk they want because it's already covered in most contracts and you get sacked if you refuse to use it. There's been a case of it already. They always find a way to get around the law too. Bunch of bullshit.

Depends. Modern machines detect if it's an actual finger or not by measuring warmth, pulse, among other things.

As am I, and it works fine. My global config is set to only allow 1st party CSS and images. Try blocking JavaScript on the specific site? Alternatively, you could view it through the Internet Archive (https://web.archive.org/eldritchdata.neocities.org/CGFTPU/RemoveYourFingerprints.html).

a) Use a finger that you won't use for future biometrics.
b) Claim it's against your anti-mark-of-the-beast 666 religion since you're in the UK, already use a NFC card, and they have CCTV pointing at the place you use the NFC card if they want to check*.
c) Regularly fsck the machine to the point they believe it is useless, unreliable, and a waste of time
d) Claim it is a pandemic super-spreader box and they must be mad to try this in the era of COVID. One employee picks up COVID on the commute = entire workforce with COVID by end of day.
e) View it as a unique hacking opportunity
f) Eat an extra stinky bacon sandwich before using it, and make sure the smell is left on it. As you're in the UK and this technology use indicates you're likely in a city, you're in a high islamic demographic area. They can be a protest ally if you give them a valid reason. Or don't eat the sandwich, but just suggest the idea to them "Do you think the finger scanner is disrespecting your religion because....."
g) ....other options here....
*They do check, which is how they found out people were signing in on others' behalf.

Remove Your Fingerprints
I talk often on how to obscure your digital fingerprints but I have been looking
over for the past 6 or so months on how to remove your physical fingerprints.
This is a series of studies I have done over the course of several months on the
best removal method for your physical fingerprints.
I will also be listing some alternative methods that work slightly less well but
still an option pending on your personal situation.
I would like to make a note that fingerprints go roughly 1mm down your layer of
skin.
So these methods all list ways to add or remove the thickness of your finger.
The removal processes are ALL very painful and often not permanent.
A pair of thick latex gloves
Change often, preferably daily or using a pair of washable well fitted cotton gl
oves.
This is the most obvious physically as people can see you wearing them throughou
t your day and can be cumbersome.
Also I would like to make note that most latex gloves do allow fingerprints to b
leed through if press hard against a surface.
If would be light and hard to make out under a typical powder brush but put unde
r a microscope you can make out finer detail making your fingerprint ID possible
.
A thick layer of Cyanoacrylate or Superglue
This is a fast and strong adhesive that creates a plastic like layer when expose
d to air.
A thick layer on your fingers can obscure or completely remove fingerprints.
This use is common in forensics to actually lift fingerprints off of a surface b
ut in our case should be suitable to remove your fingerprints.
Though be warned this is only temporary and needs to be reapplied often, every h
our or so, in thick amounts.
Acid
Now most do not have access to more powerful acids to remove the top layers of t
he skin to remove your prints.
However you can use Pineapple concentrate or burn off your prints using a prick
soak scrub method.
First you should prick your finger repeatedly with a small pin or needle over th
e entire tip.
During the bleeding sink your finger into a cup or bowl of the pineapple juice f
or about 30 minutes for each finger, after scrubbing with fine sandpaper.
This allows the acid to sink into the layers of the skin, weakening the layer of
skin, the scrubbing then removes the prints.
This process will need to be repeated every 2 weeks.
This is honestly worse than the continual burning off with an Iron and the most
intense in terms of healing, the burns are often itchy and painful during the en
tire recovery, finger feeling and mobility are also reduced greatly.
(For a faster and more intense acid burn to the finger, apply a VERY small amoun
t of mango sap with a q-tip with a bowl of antacid nearby to curve the response
and pain.)
Burn them off
Using a hot iron can burn off the fingerprints and this works for about a month
pending on the severity of the burns, so repeating often after healing can maint
ain this for quite some time.
Note this is horrid and painful but if you are up for it, feel free.
Band-aids or Duct tape
Finally through all the pain and all of the torture I put myself through I found
the best and overt way to remove fingerprints while maintaining dexterity.
Yes the easiest answer I found that had the best results with the least amount o
f time in terms of application while maintaining obscurity in public is to apply
flesh colored band-aids or duct tape.
Due to the fibers in the taping or the cotton swab in the band-aids add thicknes
s to your finger and regardless of pressing, I have found the print cannot press
through.
So if you have a desire to remove your fingerprint, save yourself the pain and j
ust apply some flesh duct tape or band aids.
This is fast, obscure, and effective.

Why didn't I think of that?... They ask to register 2, so I'll use both pinkies. Thanks.
