Moving towards life without a smart/cell phone

Give actionable steps one can take to begin living without a phone. Also discuss life moving away from/not using a phone. > Do you currently use a phone? If not, how long has it been? > How do you deal with phone number registration requirements for things such as account creation, employment, lifestyle, being contacted by or contacting others, etc.? > What tools or devices, if any, have you replaced your phone with? Do you use VOIP numbers? > What has been your experience with life without a phone? Any noteworthy experiences, regrets?

>>63246 >get a car >get more ram to emulate android x86 >buy a digital camera >buy a fancy wifi adapter with integrated bluetooth <keep gettint errors out of ass with emulated chips <cope for not having uber anymore <cope for not being able to use handy internetbanking You will end up getting a non-android phone just for chip activation and stuff, calling, wathever, more than that is bloat.

>>63246 >Do you currently use a phone? If not, how long has it been? I don't have a phone. I last had one in 2011 for three months, when I had a job. I only had the phone after I had the job for two or three months. >How do you deal with phone number registration requirements for things such as account creation, employment, lifestyle, being contacted by or contacting others, etc.? I do without, if I cannot find some online workaround. I don't care for social media anyways. >What tools or devices, if any, have you replaced your phone with? Do you use VOIP numbers? None. I used it twice. Once for calling in sick and once for quitting the job. >What has been your experience with life without a phone? Any noteworthy experiences, regrets? People don't seem to believe me. My life is much better than everyone elses. My existence is more fulfilling. My entire worldview can beat up your worldview. Lain loves me.

Tried going phoneless for several months, it was fine, some of my friends found it a little inconvenient because they expected to be able to call me while I was already going to their place to tell me about changed plans. But then I moved to a different city and it became *impossible* to get by without a phone -- some of my new friends who live here, the only way I can talk to them without being physically in the same place is via phone call. When I first moved here I didn't know my way around the city or the bus system and I needed to use OpenStreetMap and the bus website to get around. > How do you deal with phone number registration requirements for things such as account creation, employment, lifestyle, being contacted by or contacting others, etc.? You can buy VOIP phone numbers with SMS capability from various sources. It's very cheap. > What has been your experience with life without a phone? Any noteworthy experiences, regrets? Very little changed, actually. Cell phones feel important while you have them but it's rare that they are actually important.

>>63246 >Give actionable steps one can take to begin living without a phone. Also discuss life moving away from/not using a phone. I never really started. > Do you currently use a phone? If not, how long has it been? No. I never really owned one. > How do you deal with phone number registration requirements for things such as account creation, employment, lifestyle, being contacted by or contacting others, etc.? I'm unemployed, don't make accounts often and certainly not those which require phone numbers, and rarely need to contact others. > What tools or devices, if any, have you replaced your phone with? Do you use VOIP numbers? I use nothing. > What has been your experience with life without a phone? Any noteworthy experiences, regrets? Literally every human around me uses a phone. My conversations with them still have a voyeur listening in. Individual action is no escape.

>>63246 good thread, I have a small dumb phone I use to call my mom and some of my buddies. I have telegram that most people can reach me with. I also bought like 3-4 phone numbers that I use to give when I need to register / reserve a place at a restaurant so I usually only buy phones with 2 sim slots. big-gobby is planning to shut down 2G and 3G services in the next year and a half in my country and my current alternative will just be going phoneless for some time. feels bad but I kinda managed to integrate everything that I physically need my phone to and can't go without (mainly logging in to TG from a new computer) to my server and phone is just a call machine for me at this point. with these dumb phones its mainly the big-gobby that follows me and I feel like the cost of tracking me for big-corpo is too high for them to care about me. > What has been your experience with life without a phone? Any noteworthy experiences, regrets? being fully connected made us forget what the simplicity of being in the moment feels like. we always have our phone to run to when things turn a little bit rough during the day and its turns us stupid. a person without a phone (or someone who experienced life without one) doesn't understand that just sitting and looking at the air is fun, and that the "old life" (dating without a dating app, socializing without a social app, smart / comfort services that respect your privacy) is still here and is still very much lively and possible. don't let pessimism and pessimists choose what is right for you.

How does one obtain something like Skype numbers but without having to have a phone for registering a Skype account? I mean in the end of the day it really just boils down to 1. FAANG account registering 2. your job requires a phone number right?

>Give actionable steps one can take to begin living without a phone. Also discuss life moving away from/not using a phone. Start a journal. Ditch your phone cold Turkey for as long as you can. Journal about it, make the necessary changes to make it longer next time, go cold Turkey again. Repeat as long as needed. > Do you currently use a phone? If not, how long has it been? I use one without a Sim card when I'm travelling and don't have a desk. I'd ditch it if I was confident enough to sit down anywhere and work away on a laptop or tablet. I really want to. > How do you deal with phone number registration requirements for things such as account creation, employment, lifestyle, being contacted by or contacting others, etc.? By living a lifestyle I don't hate, and doesn't require me to do things I wouldn't choose to do. At most I'll borrow someone else's phone for a bit. It takes confidence and it's helped me behave like less of a bugman. It gives you Charisma buffs. > What tools or devices, if any, have you replaced your phone with? Do you use VOIP numbers? Laptop + tablet with kb. Most things I didn't replace, I ditched them. Watching bullshit in YouTube, for example. Then better activities found their way into my schedule. > What has been your experience with life without a phone? Any noteworthy experiences, regrets? I regret not doing it sooner. I regret buying the first phone I bought You have to own it and be bold about it at times. I just don't let peer pressure make do things I know to be dumb. Give it an inch and it'll shove you down the slippery slope.

>>63282 Are you not required to give an employer a phone number? If you don't, what do you usually tell them? Is internet out and about ever an issue?
Drifter · 2022-09-06 23:35
>>63282 Good idea >>63246 I want to do this. Softphone (like jmp.chat) may be the most ideal scenario as long as I "need" a phone number >>63269
