I'm a noob with wine and I've been trying to make musicbee work ( https://getmusicbee.com/downloads/ ) for a week but I just can't figure it out.
Anyone here knows how this soykaf works?
Also general thread for wine I guess

There are also some other related programs, like Proton, Winetricks, PlayOnLinux/Lutris and Bottles. If you are new to Wine, read https://itsfoss.com/use-windows-applications-linux/ and parts of https://wiki.winehq.org/Wine_User%27s_Guide

First, which distro you use and what exactly doesn't work? What's the error message? I recommend you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Wine and look up the program from Wine AppDB: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1173 (it should work according to reports). If the standard Wine doesn't work, try Wine Staging. If you can't get it working, find an alternative, like QuodLibet, DeaDBeeF or Clementine.

I've basically tried the latest install guides, but I always end up with this error on start

Check that you have the same version of Wine.

I have 7.7 and they had 6.22
is it really az good idea to downgrade wine to make a program run though?

No. The program should work with version 6.22 and any later version. Have you tried to use the portable version of Musicbee? Have you tried to use the terminal to run the .exe with Wine (to see if there is more useful error message)? Which guides you have used?

I am trying to run the portable version already
when I run it through the terminal there's a bunch of errors, including some linked to mmdevapi.dll and others I don't really understand.
I used the last guide for EndeavourOS with wine 6.22 (I run on Arch too)

Try using Winetricks (install Zenity to get GUI) to install .Net and codecs.
If this doesn't help, you might have to find a replacement.

I recommend Quodlibet or VLC.
