Offline Music Player Recommendations

Debbie Charteris · 2022-05-07 05:34
Looking to switch from Spotify to an Offline Music Player, will download all my favourite songs and just listen to it in an offline music player.

>>59666 Quod libet is alright. I tag my files and let the program populate an album list. I can remember the names of whatever song or album I feel like listening to so I'm fine with a huge list of albums and a searchbar. Just get used to torrenting stuff and dealing with batch metadata editing to get everything to behave. If you have a collection of random songs and not necessarily albums, look into sorting them by genre or making playlists etc. A bit of thought regarding your file organization before you set up your music collection will serve you well. Speaking from experience, manually setting up entries in a music player yields very nice and clean results, but it takes ages and might discourage adding new stuff.

>>59666 first, these are the actions of a based poster. ngl it's easier if you just almost exclusively listen to a constant stream of new mixes and don't need to sort by artist album year or whatever. The biggest pain is that almost every player app on android wants to sort your files and usually won't just get out of the way. I ended up using an audiobook player from fdroid to play music - it just gets out of the way and resumes from where I left off with minimal interatcion.

>>59666 I deeply recommend using Musicbrainz Picard for file organisation with some good file naming script from Github. It really solves the problem. For music player... mpd just works, if on Windows then Foobar2000
Meddler · 2022-05-07 12:02
>>59666 I know it's not FOSS. But for android I recommend Musicolet. It's the most innovative music player I've tried so far, with in my opinion the most important features: a hierarchical folder view and a tag editor included. It's got no internet access, so maybe it's not that big of an issue with it not being open sauced. For Lunix I'm using Clementine, which also has said features. >>59678 I have tried sorting my music into a neatly organized folder structure, but that has gotten quite tedious over time. So this might be pretty much what I've been looking for. Thanks.
Cat Mother · 2022-05-07 13:03
>>59666 MPD+MPC keybindings. Or DeaDBeeF or Clementine.
Emmanuel · 2022-05-07 15:45
>>59666 I have all my music on a Navidrome server, so I can stream without being limited or spied on by Spotify, and can download my music to listen to offline. On my phone I use Subtracks from F-droid, but on my PC I just mount the drive over the network and listen using Amberol. If I'm on somebody else's device I just use the web client.
Frank Garza · 2022-05-07 21:19
OP here, I forgot to say I wanted it for android Sorry my bad
Marly Krushkhova · 2022-05-07 22:18
Vanilla Music from F-Droid. Supports only playing music when headphones are connected, which often saves my ass when my headphone cord gets caught on something and the jack gets ripped out of the phone. Also enable saving playlists in an external folder so that you can sync playlists between your computer and phone.
Joey · 2022-05-07 22:33
I like mocp, but it dun borked recently and I'm too lazy to get it to work

>>59666 whats an offline music player
Koichiro · 2022-05-07 22:49
Check out cmus. It's nice. I have never used a streaming service. I purchase digital albums so that I can download them as FLAC and store on my drives for local consumption. Streaming services of any kind are for slaves.

>>59690 musicolet has been the best ive found, tons of features and no ads

also, a good way to download music is from Soulseek, better than looking for torrents or yt-dl'ing everything.
Tequila · 2022-05-08 12:39
>>59731 But lainon, soulseek is proprietary malware and made by a jew

>>59666 MPD + ncmpcpp for listening beets for tagging mpc commands for global binding such as toggle for play and stop etc

>>59733 Great setup, this is what I use too. Then you can add this snippet in `mpd.conf` to resample with `libsamplerate`, for high quality sample rate conversion. ``` resampler { plugin "libsamplerate" type "0" } ``` http://www.mega-nerd.com/SRC/ https://mpd.readthedocs.io/en/latest/plugins.html#libsamplerate

>>59731 >>59732 protip: use qbittorrent extensions rutracker has almost every album, no matter how obscure, although it's a pain having to cue split them manually

>>59666 For me, it's Winamp
Drifter · 2022-05-09 14:08

>>59666 I'd highly suggest using XiX music player as it is completely 100% foss, however the source code is kind of tricky to navigate if you want to compile it yourself. It also has builtin cd to flac burning which honestly is just the cream of the cake
SHODAN · 2022-05-09 17:42
>>59761 You can use qmmp on Linux, which supports Winamp skins.
Pulse · 2022-05-09 23:50
If you like to use a GUI, Quod Libet For CLI cmus
Yet Another Lainon · 2022-05-12 05:02
Mod + ncmpcpp is probably about as good as it gets, simple and very rich in features. EMMS is also good if you're already using Emacs.
Leben · 2022-05-12 20:35
>>59783 thanks lainon quod libet looks pretty good and does the job!
Splicer · 2022-05-13 10:51
on Windows (and Android) AIMP closest we get to WINAMP in terms of UI customization/themes (you can customize on android too) on Linux mpv i just right click on the folder in a file manager and "Open with..." mpv and it works just fine you could write up some crazy lua+bash script to enhance it as a music player though
Yet Another Lainon · 2022-05-13 14:40
VLC is fine, it works and I don't have much to complain about besides some tagging issues that I need to resolve on my own.
Spooky · 2022-05-16 23:52
>>59666 Are you referring to device or app? Maple player + Android device that is "offline". May look bland at first but it just works. Cons: >app has analytics, may expose your device useragent I doubt it was intentional (or at least the devs were oblivious to privacy implications) - it probably snucked in during build time or was added for "discovery/seo/relevancy" reasons or maybe debugging purposes. Just block it with firewall or the app's internet settings. Audio: >functional bass boost I barely use these though but it's the closest performance to a native audio DSP (from OmniROM). >neat EQ, multiple profiles No distortion unlike native android or other apps using the native EQ API that sounds bad. >functional Speed/Pitch shifter All other apps sound terrible since they use the more popular and worse sounding Rubberband, This one uses the superior SoundTouch. You can fine-tune this using Preferences Manager (fr.simon.marquis.preferencesmanager) on AudioPlayerParams.xml - the pitch can be set with up to 8 decimal places which is fair enough for very precise pitch shifting without sound degradation, no other mobile music player with pitch shifter can compete, not even the stuff on PC do use soundtouch and allow precise setting. Design: >widget functions above average >has dark/light mode before it was cool >folder view >none of those boring material or flat design like other dysfunctional "FOSS" players http://maple.sqr5.com/download.html
Dujour · 2022-06-01 12:01
>>59666 Use VLC. Are you a tech normal person? I assume you are a Windows user, maybe even a mobilenigger. VLC is available for winblows.

Is the deadbeef port for Windows any good? I mean I love it on Linux but...
Marly Krushkhova · 2022-06-23 15:41
>>59666 This is gonna be an odd reccommendation as its long dead but Tomahawk player is my personal favorite. It has the ability to cache music from multiple sources (amazon, spotify, google play music, youtube, etc.) And simultaneously scan your local library. I had to adjust several lines to make the last git actually work so I'll fork it with the modern adjustments but if you're smart enough to tweak and compile it yourself heres its github https://github.com/tomahawk-player/tomahawk
