Yggdrasil

Yggdrasil is another decentralized overlay network. However, it's really fast and easy to use. I have a website on yggdrasil, and I don't know anything. There's no cyrpto bullshit either. https://yggdrasil-network.github.io/ All you have to do to host a site on it, is make your server listen to your yggdrasil address. That's it. >>58806 >yggdrasil how does this compare to Tor/Lokinet/i2p/Freenet/GNUnet?

>>58857 >tor Anonymity is not an objective. Although it seems there are TOR peers. I'm not sure what that means though. https://github.com/yggdrasil-network/public-peers/blob/master/other/tor.md
Hitomi · 2022-04-14 17:46
>>58857 It's faster than Tor and i2p(by a long shot). At least when you connect to clear net peers. >>58858 I'm not 100% sure, but my guess based on this >Note that the following assumes Tor is running locally is that since yggdrasil is a routing protocol, it doesn't matter how you connect to a peer. A tor node is one which can be connected to through tor, but is the same in every other way. There are also i2p peers. >https://github.com/yggdrasil-network/public-peers/blob/master/other/i2p.md >Note that the following assumes I2P is running locally

have any performance comparisons OP? probably not a fair comparison to compare to tor or i2p for speed since those networks strive for anonymity and accomplish through multiple hops (onion and garlic routing). i guess the problem i have with a lot of these alt networks is that most will just get accessed through a browser via a gateway instead of using the underlying protocol, with the exception of networks like tor or i2p since their only benefit is to use them directly
Wintermute · 2022-04-15 10:16
>>58874 Not OP. I don't have any fancy charts for you, but Yggdrasil (in my experience) has near-clearnet speeds. You can /technically/ be pseudonymous if you configure it to automatically generate the configuration each boot instead of using a conf file, which will change your IP on each run. > most will just get accessed through a browser via a gateway I don't think you understand what Yggdrasil is. How would you access it through a gateway? It's a transport layer. It's not like IPFS or ZeroNet, which are for pushing files around.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2022-04-15 12:48
Bad anonymity, no no no! Also, this is sounding highly similar to various other p2p/danknet services...
Cowboy · 2022-04-15 14:48
>>58881 Op, and I'm going to second this. The appeal for me, is that making and hosting a website on it at no extra cost, is very easy, and while it isn't as private as tor/i2p, is it more so than the clearnet. I'd day it's competing with DNS providers, VPNs and https more so than tor or i2p. And like mentioned above, you can connect to it via tor and i2p, along with randomly generating your address every time you use it. Pic is speedtest done on clearnet, yggdrasil, and on tor.

is there any version of yigg for non gobros. Curious to try but I just don't do go.
Nobody important · 2022-04-15 15:21
>>58885 Not that I could find on github, gitlab or gitgud. There is this https://github.com/popura-network/Popura, which includes more c code and extra features. At least it's not java.
Terzibashjian · 2022-04-16 14:45
>>58881 > How would you access it through a gateway? I'm guessing he's talking about accessing the web servers running yigg by having a normal internet <-> yigg proxy. I've noticed there are a lot of 4/g/ refugees here lately.

so do i need yggdrasil users near me for this to work? is this a p2pnet?
Neo · 2022-05-20 09:41
too bad hosting this is asking for a bioluminescent cp dump on your machine wish my router supported it, it's from like 2013 still i don't really understand, do initially access this with tht clearnet?
Rick Deckard · 2022-05-20 15:30
>>60065 Yes. You access it with the clearnet to download the software you nee to run yggdrasil. Keep in mind yggdrasil is also clearnet unlike Tor or I2P.
Nemissa · 2022-05-20 16:26
>>60065 How am I, hosting a static HTML site over Yggdrasil, asking for a "CP dump"? Genuinely curious. I can see how a social media site would have a risk of CP, but then that's just the same risk as clearnet. Also your router doesn't have to support soykaf as Yggdrasil runs on your computer

>>58806 What is the problem Yggdrasil is trying to solve?
Marly Krushkhova · 2022-05-20 18:26
>>60083 Scalable decentralized routing, specifically IPv6. Anything beyond that like E2E is an implementation detail.
Crash Override · 2022-05-20 18:39
>>60087 >Scalable decentralized routing, specifically IPv6 This doesn't sound like a problem I care about. Good luck I guess.
Tomohisa "Tom" Kanezaki · 2022-07-06 06:23
>>60074 >yggdrasil is also clearnet Generally, but not necessarily. There's Tor and I2p nodes. Maybe I'll check the performance of using those.
