Is a pretty good right-wing dis-utopian fiction story about Nuerolink including Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. The story is incredible if you can get past the emojis and right wing bait. Forced Homosexuality isn't coming anytime soon, but technological control is already partly here with DRM and Apple not allowing you root on your own device.
Neurolink sounds like an incredible technology, and a technology that we absolutely can except nothing other that full individual control of, without open source and probably formally verified hardware, software and supply chains. I am terrified.

You actually believe that human beings would have complete and total control over the mind one day? Yeah, it's never happening, and current technological innovation is actually brushing against the laws of Physics and Thermodynamics already, so don't count on this anytime soon. All this "brain interface" bullshit is is an American cultural meme, one which is never going to exist. We'll never, in a thousand, no a million years, create a machine which is going to have complete control over every single function of the mind, and we are never, in a thousand/million years, going to discover which exact neurons and neuronal pathways are responsible for each and every emotion, thought, activity. Have fun living within your American cultural bubble, reading these types of trendy stories, they are for sure going to go out of fashion in a few decades. Literally everyone writes stories like this.

Sounds like you have a bit of a grudge lain.
The brain is a physical thing that we have means of observing, therefore we can create models out of it and compare those to reality, rinse and repeat.
It almost certainly isn't going to be simple or intuitive but it is most definitely possible. Especially with how much money people are willing to burn in aid of their cheap party tricks.

>thermodynamics impossible ameripigs
umad? Lord Kelvin wrote a valid proof that humans would never fly predicated on thermodynamics of flight. His proof was unsound because he assumed no engine more powerful than steam.
If nature can construct through some means something as complicated as the brain, I a mean everybody but you seems to have one, why do you not think that humans are forbidden physically from constructing something of similar complexity. Brains are possible. Why not manipulation of the design of the brain?
Still confused what America has to do with any of this.

This right here, no way they will make this for the people, but against it as always.
Like any of those grand technocratic visions ever turned the world better in the last 50 years.

Come just look at the level of control they have with such primitve methods such as social media manipulation.
They will keep pushing the enevlope and make more cheap tricks to suck people into their control network.

I feel like this is the one bridge I wouldn't want to cross. Maybe artificial limbs I could get behind, but I would hate the idea of not having privacy of the mind considering there isn't much privacy left in the world

The problems with anything connecting to the brain is if it can be accessed in anyway after implanting.
No system that has some connection to an external device isn't going to be free from hacking.
I've been recently thinking the ethnicity and security of chips that have all capabilities onboard without the need to connect wirelessly to anything.
But I think the most pressing dangers are going to be from the companies that are going to push out the new products.
Very fearful of BCI or any tech connected to the brain going down the path of apple with planned obsolescence or the government forcing companies to put back doors into their devices or hoarding security holes for their benefit.

At least in theory, you can cancel your phone plan, discard it, or simply leave it at home. I do not trust a BCI to be properly disableable. (I do not trust phones to be properly disableable, either.)

There was already a case of a man being convicted of arson via his pacemaker logs. There is no expectation of privacy for any "smart" implants, no matter how "dumb" they are. If there is a shred of silicon in something being put into your body, all information passing through it, without exception, becomes properly of the manufacturer, and, by extension, your government. No bionics company will ever have a warrant canary, for instance.
