Any of you ever hear of Arcan? I would describe it as the graphics system of Plan9 if it were designed today. Their about page says "Arcan is a powerful development framework for creating virtually anything between user interfaces for specialised embedded applications all the way to full-blown standalone desktop environments." https://arcan-fe.com/about/ I was looking more into zoomable UIs after watching brodi's video on the EagleMode file browser and found a demo video of this Arcan project. This desktop environment was built with Arcan. https://youtube.com/watch?v=zZqKD-p4GpE I don't think its aesthetic or functional but I've never tried it. Their site gives a few examples where this might be a good idea like managing a lot of VMs or something similar. I know a few lainons will love this look. Their site also has a ton of blog posts about its development and they are very detailed and well written. The Arcan project isn't very relevant to me but I know that obscure projects like this are just what some of you are looking for. (Its got nearly 1000 stars on github maybe its not obscure and I've just never heard about it) * Have you ever used Arcan or anything built with it? * Would you consider using it? * If you have tried it, what was your experience with it? * Kinda unrelated but what are your thoughts on zoomable UIs? Ever tried one? Love or hate it? The git: https://github.com/letoram/arcan

off-topic: finally a true lainchan type of thread.

The author is also developing a VR desktop as well, which is interesting. Security is better than xorg, at least going by design, and the ability to use other computers' monitors as additional displays for the same system (a bit like "barrier" allows but better) is neat.

Insanely based: https://arcan-fe.com/2021/09/20/arcan-as-operating-system-design/ It's way more secure than xorg and wayland and is way better designed. The guy behind it is a genius, as expected by Swedish people.
