i wasn't aware of the dangers that could affect me, later this day i ran wireshark and there was a soykaf ton of Chinese addresses and the same happened to my friend whos inrolling with me, i installed the program and re-ran Wireshark and the same addresses appeared, i think my computer got infected. any possible solutions ? i feel so stupid rn

You'll have to accept it and just not do any dumb soykaf while studying in a dictatorship.
lainposter · 2021-09-14 00:20

>wondering why soykaf like this happens
I don't even know how they enrolled you with this fact in mind.
Jokes aside, I would suggest doing a reinstall and running a separate windows instance in a VM or dual booting between two installations, one for stupid soykaf and second for the uni.

the borders are closed I'm still in my country.

I think this is your best bet. Dual booting or running your uni setup in a VM (if it's allowed).
If you have alot on your current setup, I think just making another partition with another OS and making it your new main would be less hassle? You could also make a copy image of your current setup for a VM. Plenty of ways to do it, google it and see what fits your needs.
Hope you'll succeed in your studies btw, OP.

You're just overthinking. As a windows user who uses opera yourself, this is just a poor assessment on your side. Those are probably your wifi/localnet neighbors. Mac don't mean soykaf, give me IP and I'll believe you although a windows install would have china IPs built in to it so why even bother worrying about spyware on spyware os (open resource monitor, sweetie).

anon why are you even going to a Chinese University in the first place
they are all garbage

Why would you apply to go to a Chinese university when the only future you could ever get from that degree is to become an English teacher for Chinese children?
You will also be inculcated with CCP propaganda as well, why would you sign up for this?
That Chinese virus is your consolation prize.

Not any less propaganda than students are indocrinated with a Western liberal education.

Forgot to mention, anything that you thought was private of proprietary is probably in the hands of some chinese businessman or the government of china, look forward to it being sold on wish or alibaba at a 98% discount

VMs like others or even something like QubesOS is your best bet. Honestly I would get an entirely separate device and assume that one is 100% compromised

--If I was on the way to china-- for a stay, I'd install windows (if needed), dualboot with encrypted Debian which has downloaded a validated offline Debian Mirror. The windows wouldn't have the posibillity to read your filesystem, when it's up and you don't have to install packages trough the great firewall, which I don't trust, instead use the packages you had with you.
Also create a multiboot USB for troubleshooting (bootloader / whacked filesystem/ ram / hdd checks)
maybe, you can grab some offline knowledge https://wiki.kiwix.org/wiki/Content_in_all_languages
Are you right now in China? of not the IP adresses are probably from the program, since I don't expect a dozen of resolved addresses in lets say Europe, if you are already in china, there will be much multicast and broadcast adresses which will fly around
Cypher · 2021-10-19 13:10

also maybe hide your bootloader, so that you have to F12 to come to your Linux Installation, since at the airport anything that isn't a Windows or Mac would be suspicious and maymay be forced to show to the Police, If you have very bad luck, they make a copy of your unencrypted data

to be honest, your an idiot. You enrolled in a Chinese university, installed Chinese software, and then are surprised your computer is connecting to a Chinese IP Address?
You didn't even see what the connection was, or whois the host. How are you even sure its malicious? The internet is global, you could connect to an American companies website from America and end up being served from a datacentre in China.

implying soykaf fuarrrk nigger glitterboy
Just another Random Lainon · 2021-12-28 12:41
It's been a few months, but just in case you still need help, here are a few things I'd recommend:
Get a Linux distribution, whichever one works best for you (ex. Ubuntu / Debian, if you're inexperienced), and install it instead of windows, making sure to enable encryption. Select servers outside China during the initial install.
For anything related to studying, use a VM with Windows, where you install all the soykaf the school asks you to. Don't put in any more information than you're absolutely required to.
Connect to Tor using its bridges, and proxy everything outside the VM through it. Ideally, also set up a firewall on the host system that blocks known tracking IPs.
I have to ask though, why enroll there in the first place? It's obvious this would happen under a dictatorship supported by a country-wide mass surveillance system.
Tequila · 2021-12-29 06:12
Aside the question why the fuarrrk you enrolled to commie country university - get a separate computer and if you can separate mobile phone internet connection for that computer and never connect other machines to same network. That's the biggest possible level of isolation you can get.

>Mac don't mean soykaf
This is accurate. It just tells you who built the device, and since everything is made in china you'll see lots of ching chong bing bong names anywhere you sniff packets.
That said, wechat is 100% sending any private info it can find to china, but it will look like normal wechat encrypted traffic. That's what it's made to do, not an "infection". Although it may install rootkits also, I dunno.
