What do you lainons think about this laptop? ThinkPad X270? I want to have a laptop I can throw around and not worry about it! I will use it for latex editing and some bullsthit zoom calls. What do you think? I have inherited a P1 Gen1 with baller specs but I want to sell it because it's too much for me!

Get the T400/R400 model or earlier. Anything later than that isn't based. You can replace the CPU with a T9800, give it more RAM, replace the SSD with a bigger one and you'll be fine.

This laptop nowadays is only good for Libreboot. Otherwise its a slow, hot, soykafty display and short battery life.

I'd want a laptop with some power, I'm not crazy good about PC's but a lot of these chips on these laptops are really, really old.
What's wrong with the newer?
I'm just looking for a laptop I can use separately from my main workstation, just some Linux crash test to do voice call and play minecraft with my college friends (thats all they play i dunno why)

Cons:
- The ram is a bit loose and can disconnect if lifted by the corner.
- The clitmouse rubs on the screen leaving marks.
- The cable through the hinge to the monitor frayed after a while meaning it can't be closed anymore.
- Bit clunky for its size, could have easily been made thinner.
Not sure if I was unlucky with the build quality but it wasn't a particularly great laptop for carrying around a lot. On the plus side one can get >20 hours battery life with the internal + larger external battery combo.

I have a x260 myself, I think there are no big differences between that and an x270. I also have an x220 that I can use for comparison.
So I would not say you can simply throw around and not worry about x260. I could do that with my x220, but my x260 had some issues already with the LVDS cable between the screen and the main board. It is a much more fragile machine. On the good hand I could purchase a replacement cable from China and fix it. A trade-off is that the design looks much better.
If you compare to the average cheap consumer machines yes, it is well built but not as well as earlier units.
Keyboard is obviously inferior to x220, but still good compared to almost everything in the market. The trackpoint is crap on x260, but the trackpad is somewhat fine to compensate.
Now for the good points: the 1080p screen is amazing, and the thermals are great. It is mostly silent on Linux, I only hear the fans when doing software updates or playing games. The x220 cannot compete with 1366x768, and is also quite hot normally.
The graphics accelerator is also way ahead of the older Thinkpads, you can actually play games on this if you reduce the settings a bit, but I only tested gaming on Linux, cannot comment on Windows performance.

I have x260 and it does everything I need, mostly using Firefox and Libreoffice on QubesOS.

Don't expect nice framerates with thinkpads. It's really not built to do anything graphics heavy.

Who needs this wannabee macshit steeming reddit garbage when Framework exists? Lenovo is Fujitsu-Siemens tier now, an dinosaur from the past.

the same could be said of every single thinkpad but at least the old ones were built well

keep in mind that the x220 is already built worse and is more fragile than x200

THOUGHTS ON FRAMEWORK GUISE?

Honestly I'm starting to think the hype around Framework is manifactured by them. There are an underwhelming amount of ports and no space for two drives even. The modules are too small for any interesting ports so seems it's basically only able to support what comes standard on any entery level laptop but even less.. I recently found out about the Panasonic Toughbook 55 which also does modular and from from first impressions it does modular better than Framework in the sense there is way more ability to change things. The keyboard is somewhat attached with adhesive though but it's not really that hard to take out. It supports for two SSDs and you can double up on batteries for 40 hours of battery power if you want. Only drawback I noticed is seems the camera mounted uses a sliding cover instead of a switch like Framework's from what I made out. That's all I am aware of for now there may be other drawbacks behind Framework or maybe it's better. I'm not sure how difficult it is to replace parts like the screen on it.
