Reclaiming A Website | Lain's Wired Sites

Nameless · 2021-06-17 19:42
Hi Lain. So there's this site: https://www.goodsites.tech/ It hasn't been updated since January and could use some better organization and tagging, IMO. Since the author has abandoned it, I was think it'd be a better idea to create Lain's Wired Sites or something. Probably could be hosted on Neocities if need be. Idk. What do you think, Lain?
Just another Random Lainon · 2021-06-17 20:12
interesting list of sites, definitely bookmarking this. lainon I do see some areas where the site can be improved, but I don't think it will add too much value at this point, given the site hasn't been updated in only around 6 months. also, all the links are on one page, so Ctrl+f is your tagging, actual tags probably not needed

Neat. The glorious Jihad against wikia continues. some design thoughts if you're going to clone it: - the fixed position catgirl is juvenile and distracting. make it normally positioned so it scrolls off the top - the animated banner text is annoying. no animations pls - remember, cualidad > cantidad when it comes to these kinds of aggregator sites. especially if they're curated by hand.

>>47416 >>49679 I'm perplexed with freetards' prolonged unability to grasp the fact that putting more than one clickable item per screen width and reducing typeface leading proportionate to it's size saves vertical space and hence the requirement for visitor to scroll through two-word sentences for half an hour in order to reach to the end. This whole niggerlicious piece of webshit could fit in 3 screen heights instead of 30 when done properly. Why do I even have to see what URL you're linking it in the first place? if I care (I really don't, but if I did, I'd blacklist all the "bad" domain names and IP ranges with software), I can hover my cursor over and see it specifically for every link, displaying long URLs on page makes no sense. Title names for websites and articles would take less space than URLs (I'm glad you didn't go full retard by including http(s):// or www, at least not on all of them) >Miscelaneous: Useful: Cool links: Etc: Unsorted: TV/Anime/Politics/Manhole covers: Damn, those categories are 90's teenage girl homepage tier. Where are nested metadata and tags? Oops, I forgot, webshit software still can't into basic hypermedia functions without introducing attack vectors for CIA. Browsing zombies.

Yeah this site and the original both suck to navigate. Make the headings collapsible for a start. Also this site hurts my eyes, find some way to get all the explainer text left-aligned. People scan down the page reading the text not the URLs, so don’t make them move their eyes back and forth. Well at least someone’s maintaining the list now. Saved it to the Wayback Machine

I'd appreciate my website being added: http://verisimilitudes.net It's a personal website focussed on such topics as Lisp, Ada, hardcore machine code programming, human language modelling, and other such topics.

>>51475 My website is accessible with even the oldest HTTP clients, and I also have a Gopher hole, yes. HTTPS is a false sense of security, because any certificate authority could interfere with the connection. I'm also uninterested in my website becoming inaccessible because some useless middlemen desired it. Here are some links covering this: http://verisimilitudes.net/2020-12-30 http://n-gate.com/software/2017/07/12/0/ What's more important than secrecy is authenticity, and people should provide cryptographic evidence of provenance. Of course, I don't do this either, because I don't care. Even before I knew about what a sham TLS is, I didn't participate because it's infinitely more effort than it's worth. The only time my website has ever suffered a MitM was when some stupid jackass placed it behind Cloudflare, which injected JavaScript into my hand-crafted pages. >>51486 I'm glad to read that. I should end up finishing at least two CHIP-8 games within the month.

I've never had issues with Tor on unencrypted websites, including mine. >What a fuarrrking entitled twat. It's entitled to demand people depend on a third-party for no real benefit. Using HTTPS provides no real protection, and is primarily pushed to defend advertisements, but it also has the added benefit of planned obsolescence. >And you're actively making that harder than it needs to be you fuarrrkwit. One solution is not using the WWW at all. It was always garbage. >No, you're just going to be ignored as a source of liability. I'd be largely ignored anyway, by that thinking. At least I'm not being ignored behind a Let's Encrypt certificate or the Cloudflare MitM.

>>52276 > Incidentally, plain http over exit nodes is actively more dangerous than https because one should assume exit nodes are malicious. You missed this part. I have seen exit nodes messing with unencrypted sites. This would be largely mitigated by providing an onion mirror of your site.

>>52698 It proves nothing more than that the page content you received is indeed the one the server's controller sent you. It doesn't provide any guarantees about who controls the server. It's also vulnerable to hijacking by other PKI root authorities (which would also allow for SSL Stripping), but that's a problem with the PKI infrastructure itself.

>>52767 It's not the key rotations, but the major protocol changes that are the primary issue. >If it stops opportunistic attacks then it's better than nothing. False security is worse than none. However, stopping opportunistic attacks is the only purpose of this nonsense. So, the young cracker can't interfere, but any large corporation or privileged government can do so, and those advertisements with malware are securely delivered. It also has the added benefit of securing devices against those who purchased them.
