youtube-dl broken

I have tried the binary from their site as well as gitlab. Is it over?

development hasn't stopped, if that's what you mean. Give it a couple days for the devs to figure it out. They probably also have to talk to lawyers these days.

>>35357 They could just use a fiction of some Russian or whatever rehosting it somewhere else and hand over the project. Who cares that they have a suspiciously-similar coding style.
Neuromancer · 2020-10-31 04:50
>>35358 You misunderstand; there is no trouble with continuing development since they have not actually broken a law. They just can't host on github for now. The reason they have to talk to lawyers is because the EFF and others are probably pouncing at the opportunity to land a blow on the RIAA or whoever did this stupid thing

the youtube-dl binary i got from windows scoop before the git repo got taken down used to work days ago, now youtube seems to have made the JS player not work anymore with the outdated binary

>>35415 It'll come to the point they update the "API" every week until the devs get tired of doing workarounds because soykaf breaks weekly and finally be suggested that "you must integrate our blobspyware and cookie soykaf" into dev's code to make it "legal" (or to make it trackable and other soykaf). It happened a year ago, Newpipe breaks every week, Yalp quit, Aurora broke + devrant, Raccoon broke + devrant, Invidio (removed download option or legal conseq), a lot of devrant from android systemless/root community. What else needs to die? Umatrix? Ublock? Firefox|Chrome forks? Devs are all fuarrrking tired circumventing the big spyware botnet. Until anti-trust laws get real, there cannot be a new ecosystem. Want to start another librem-like startup? You can't, you don't appear in search results.

>>35426 some videos still work fine for me. Youtube has been trying to budge youtube-dl for years and they've never flagged behind for more than a week or two. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVllL4tNZsI

>>35463 This. The og ytdl has been a zombie for some time now, merging only a few (mostly fixes) PRs between releases. Meanwhile ytdlc is back up and in full force.
