The Matrix - Room 101 Thread

John Titor · 2020-10-24 00:47
Wanted to make this thread, because no matter how many times I watch the Matrix, Neo's room always gives me major feels. It looks so damn comfy. Obvious spoilers, however if you haven't seen the Matrix, just close and go watch it right now, then come back. >Is there anything cool you can spot in Neo's room, or on his desk? >Besides what you can see, what types of things do you think Neo would have in his room? >What types of CD's do you think are in his collection? Massive Attack is a given, seeing he is listening to Dissolved Girl. I am personally curious if anyone knows what the CD player was he was using? >What types of books would he read? >What software, and programs do you think he used? Operating system? >What do you think he did on his computer? (Details, use your imagination) Feel free to use other screenshots if you have them, to post and share your thoughts and opinions.

open space and lighting is a big part of it. i know i personally hate the feel and look of the generic "warm" lightbulbs that make everything orange. i prefer the "day" lightbulbs which make it white, like an office atmosphere.

Funny, because personally I much prefer the warmer lights, the white ones give me massive migraines. However, I agree they do have two different aesthetics. Also, I just noticed, on-top of his CD player it looks like a receiver. I don't think it's a separate preamplifier and amplifier, judging by the amount of knobs and the lack of other equipment. But I noticed, he has it popped open, and wires coming out of it. I wonder what he did to it.

I wonder if the reason Neo's room gives you feels is because it reminds you of an earlier workplace/someplace a parent worked. For me it's the latter and I definitely get major feels as well. >OS So this movie came out in 1999, meaning that he'd probably be using FreeBSD or NetBSD (those fit in in with early hacker culture). >software Definitely a C compiler and an assembler, although it's hard to say which one. Maybe the GNU ones if it fit in with Neo's ideology. Maybe he also accessed telnet BBSes. >usage He probably wanted to leak company secrets, for whatever reason. We didn't get much insight into that but he seemed to be drained by his job.

>>34990 >Workplace I think it's moreso just the clutter, my parents didn't do office work really, but our home desk did have a 90s feel but it was nothing like that nor was the computer. But I don't think it's related much besides just old tech. I won't lie I do miss it. >1999 BSD, was Linux not popular then too? >C Compiler and an assembler This is what I would've figured. But like what types of things do you think he did? What types of software were popular then? He obviously wasn't taking his laptop to Soybucks and sniffing packets, it was early internet. Any forums or websites or cli tools or software that was popular then with that scene?

>>35290 not that lainon but he probably browsed bbs's, normal websites, and just hacked away getting root on interesting machines he sold some cd that was a drug-like product to a dude that knocked on his door in this scene so I'm guessing he was probably targetting biotech firms?

>>35398 oh no now that i remember it it was a program to eliminate unpayed parking fines iirc so he probably hacked government servers
Neuromancer · 2020-10-31 17:55
>>35399 Where did you learn that? I know it wasn't in the movie

Rewatched this for the first time in 10+ years recently, My friend pointed out the CRT monitors and I had notalgia for when I used to have 2 CRTs hooked up to my computer to play counterstrike. The clutter and lighting looked a lot like my personal battlestation in my early teens with CDs and floppies and HD just lying around. At one point I didn't have the right mounting hardware so I just used tape to hold a hard drive in place. My mum also got mad at me for having built a computer without a case from a bunh of scrap components when i was maybe 14y/o because she said I was going to electrocute myself with all the exposed fans and wires on a desk. Looking at the picture now I just realized the 6 power strips linked together >>35400 There is a lot of extended matrix lore/trivia floating around. There were a few games, comics and an anime that explore some of the lore.

>>35410 this made me realise there are matrix comics, some of them are pretty cool like talking about creating AI
