Moving to Germany. Need advice.

kiwami · 2020-10-15 17:03
Hello fellow lainons. I will be moving to Germany where Douche-bags are Deutchbags. I will be having a few things moving with me, my trusty ThinkPad R60, some HDDs, an iPod 2G and a regular phone. Now, where I come from (an outside EU/USA country) we have very relaxed laws in regards to the Internet and Piracy. Any EU folks and Germans here to advise me on that? -What am I allowed to do, what am I not? -Would I be watched? -Which carrier has reliable Internet with cheap fares? -How can I utilize my stay in Germany to buy old PDAs and tech and where to find a "Flohmarkt" Any additional advice on or off Technology-related topics are appreciated. >pic related since best german man

>>34256 >Former german Lain Plz be moar specific where you are going, Germany is a very diverse place after all, The best culture is obviously from Bayern. Germany is like most other western countries, but you should avoid overtly pirating soykaf like they do in south america, and asia. >What am I allowed to do, what am I not? Germany has very strict laws, and many of them. Be more specific. >Would I be watched? Depends, but probably >Which carrier has reliable Internet with cheap fares? Sorry, I cant help you here, IIRC I used to have T-Mobile >How can I utilize my stay in Germany to buy old PDAs and tech and where to find a "Flohmarkt" Not Hard, many places have them, sometimes small towns and villages put them on with almost the entire town participating, and you can really find some good soykaf. Best advice, learn the language and find a QT German girl to show you around.

Germany is one of the few countries whose constitution covers your digital privacy as far as decryption goes. Forced key disclosure is verboten, which is good.
Yet Another Lainon · 2020-10-15 17:56
>>34265 Correcting myself, not sure on the constitution bit. But it's part of their Criminal Code, right to silence & all that.
kiwami · 2020-10-15 18:25
>>34263 Ich werde nach München, Bayern. Ich kenne schon eine gute Menge von Deutch, gut genug zum Studieren. Regarding the laws, I'm actually wondering about Radio laws, like is it legal to broadcast at 2.4GHz or what band is the free band. Is it legal to build your own network? As per the FRAUELEINEN, I think I can score a qt$\pi$. Also, where to buy old vidya?

>>34256 Why does the first guy look like pink from pink floyd movie? On-topic answer, well, i'm not german, but for what i've heard torrenting there is illegal, so torrent over I2P or something
Tomohisa "Tom" Kanezaki · 2020-10-15 22:02
>>34270 There's basically nowhere that torrenting is by itself illegal, though copyright infringement has been lobbied/corrupted into actual illegality in botnet nations. And given the dates, Kraftwerk probably inspired Pink's design more than the opposite. It also seems as a parody of certain historic memes.
Hitomi · 2020-10-15 22:14
>Why does the first guy look like pink from pink floyd movie? The colors of their clothes, their cheap hair style, their apparent nationality, are suggestive of a certain historically significant---and thematically relevant to The Wall---corporatist cult.

>>34256 >-Would I be watched? I'm not German but answering this question is impossible unless someone had some kind of German government clearance and lurk here. Usually if the agents think you're a spy especially if you came from countries like Russia, (especially) China, or US, they might monitor you for a while. As for piracy, I think it only gets worse. A lot of tracker sites are increasingly dying and the Media Service Providers will enforce punishment of piracy if it gains them more revenue and considering how most of the tech giants are Payment Processors and Media Service Providers themselves playstore, amazon store, etc., it's not a surprise.

>>34256 Germanon here Since Snowden we know that all connections going through DE-CIX are monitored by the NSA, so of course you're being watched, just like everyone else. However the barrier for normal law enforcement is set pretty high. I wouldn't recommend Germany as a base for illegal soykaf or just filesharing, because there are Abmahnanwälte ("warning lawyers"?) who have specialized on suing you for illegal file sharing. Real peaces of soykaf. And of course for digital stuff you can choose the court you use, those lawyers always use the court of Hamburg, which almost always enforces giving them the IP addresses, so be careful about that. Besides that, Germany is nice. In the bigger cities in West Germany and in Berlin you have some problems with mostly arab clans, but when you don't live in the wrong parts of the city this shouldn't be a problem. In East Germany you have some problems with nazis or generally people who are not aware that there exist humans outside of Germany and other languages than German (especially in small villages, lel), but again, even with the current rise of conservatism the real nazis are a very small minority and normally shouldn't bother you in day-to-day-life. To answer you questions: >allowed don't jaywalk in front of a police car, don't beat people up, don't shoot anyone, avoid tax fraud, be a decent human being and you should be fine. Ask more specific questions >Would I be watched Already answered that. Also be aware of old people sitting at windows watching the street, they're worse than NSA, CIA, BND and Verfassungsschutz combined, lel >Best internet Either it's expensive or the customer service is soykaf. sometimes both, lel. I use Telekom/T-Online, it's ok and more or less the standard. Vodafone is cheaper but apparently tries to fuarrrk people over. >buy old stuff and Flohmakt No problem there, you have Flohmarkts everywhere regularly. Of course with the pandemic currently there are none that I know of, but as soon as we have a vaccine or whatever, this should change fast again. You get old stuff easily, also look at ebay and ebay-kleinanzeigen.de (more or less craigslist? no idea) Additional advice: Look for hackspaces in your area and anything CCC related (Chaos Computer Club), lot's of people having fun with tech and being bitter at Windows users there Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA! Best beers: Helles Bier from southern germany, Münchner Hell, Tegernseer, etc Best Pilsner: Gampert Chep Beer. Sternburg Export (STERNBURG ROT BIS IN DEN TOD!) Hipster Drink: Club Mate (Caffeinated stuff, tastes either great or like an ash tray, I like it) E A T B R E A D, Schwarzbrot, Graubrot, Bauernbrot, trie it, you will love it. Try bread variations and see which bread you like best. Also go to a real bakery which doesn't use pre-made dough, if you can. Rely on public transport, it's quite good even if we like to bitch about it Be careful about voicing political opinions. You will also have a ton of masochistic people living here who try to drag you down and tell you that everything you trie does not work. Just ignore them, lel

OP, since you're going into BY territory, I advise you read the possession laws and limits, since it's the strictest Land when it comes to this stuff. Don't overtly pirate, streaming is fine, xdcc is always a viable option as well. If you wanna be funny about browsing, spoof you mac and hop on to one of the many free wifi hotstops that just have you click 'i accept the t&c'. >>34268 Don't see how 2.4G should be any different from conventional WiFi. If no one is knocking the doors of AP owners down, then I'm assuming anything with reasonable TX gain levels shouldn't be an issue. Depends on what you're planning. For other ham-related shenanigans, check this: https://www.bundesnetzagentur.de/EN/Areas/Telecommunications/Companies/FrequencyManagement/AmateurRadio/amateurradio_node.html Btw if any other lederhosen-wearing lainons could chip in their thoughts and recommendations regarding München, I would greatly appreciate it. Been here for a little over a year and I'm not sure if the city is plain boring or it's just the pandemic to blame. For its size and population, I expected something more similar to Frankfurt or Hamburg. Aber naja, Bayern.

>>34290 >I'm not German but answering this question is impossible unless someone had some kind of German government clearance and lurk here. Not really. Hackers tend to get hints about what's going down. I remember pre-snowden someone went on 4chan and tried to bust the whole domestic spying program open. I'm sad to say that at the time I told them the NSA has walked the edge of it's charter from time to time but such a thing would be so far outside the purpose of the agency that there is no way it could be true :( Prior to 9/11 I heard lots of hackers taking guesses about what the intelligence capabilities of nations might be. They were all WAAAYYY more advanced than what was actually going down at the time but they accurately described what was to come. I'm afraid many of these kids were later paid to turn their forward thinking paranoia and turn it into the reality we have today. Hackers tend to have a good feel for what the government is up to.
Frank Garza · 2020-10-16 19:23
>>34290 German spies are notorious for letting certain people (especially right wing extremists) know when they are being watched. In fact the the German security has a lot of moles that provide intel to sleeper cells within the special forces (many troops from eastern germany) who are possibly plotting to take out the entire german government and establish some kind of right wing utopia. Many such articles on the subject. Also there was that one time a gay porn star tried betraying Germany in the name of ISIS. Clownworld...

Is it true that Germoney derezzed nmap and other "hacking" tools? xD Also how the heck you let your gov ban most knives? xD In Poland I can walk the street with a motherfucking two handed sword. Let me guess good portion of people fleeing from country are IT workers as Berlin enforces "equality of wages" a.k.a. "fuarrrk you we are going to make you earn much less than what your educational background would grant you in other countries" just in the name of "lesser pay gap between social groups" meaning you are going to earn not that much on the background of for example lavatory attendant. At least that's what we often hear in Poland. It may be as well lies xD

>>34363 >plotting It seems my hunch was correct. Something was really going on in Germany. >germanons religiously practice EFF teachings >most of the anti-surveillance tools, services, servers were German based >hacker cultures It's only a matter of time until the smoke turns into fog. >>35417 >Is it true that Germoney derezzed ... tools This I'd like to know but I guess it's true. Shits fuarrrked. Maybe they don't want their ISPs compromised and damaged by another mirai chan clone.

>>34324 Its pandemic time ... what do you await? Most of us stay at home and now with the new lockdown the public life will shutdown much more.
Naomi Nascimento · 2020-11-08 07:59
>>35417 there is the "hackertoolparagraph" (nice German word <3), which states, that using such tools for illegal purposes is illegal. Seems a bit redundant, but it basically means if you are persecuted for some "computer crime" and used a "hackertool", your punishment is worse. It's actionism and virtue signalling.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2020-11-08 08:03
>>35417 >>35788 Also: yes, as soon as I have my PhD I will either earn my money in Stuttgart, Frankfurt or Munich, hopefully with home office so that I don't have to live in these overly espensive environments. Or outside of Germany. Most of computer related wages are an absolute joke in Germany. Companies talk about how they can't get qualified CS/IT people but pay same or less than polish companies, while the cost of living in Germany is much higher. So if I just fuarrrk off to Poland I'll have more money left at the end of the day (and get that mandatory Government issued slav qt gf, right?) How is life in Poland Lairznoczn?

>>34265 They broke their own constitution to allow to break into your home and plant malware which totally inst for snooping around the house but necessary because there is no other way to attack your pc - the official legitimization. Heise reported about it when it passed. >>35417 A politician got stabbed, 2 months later they radically worsened weapon laws.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2020-11-08 12:16
>>35790 And thats just what we know about, as a core NATO member we can be sure that they are happily letting five eyes spy on them and then report the results to them and just flat out breaking the law and spying on people regardless. The idea that the law is actually protecting us from government mass surveillance should firmly be in doubt by now after the countless leaks. Germany has the fun problem of far right groups infiltrating large parts of the state apparatus as a result of support during the Cold War so they can potentially use the data they are stealing from you for things beyond even the government.
