Keybase Thread

What does lain/tech/ think of keybase.io? I remember finding this site while browsing the internet and looking at moot's profiles. I ended up stumbling upon this again when kuznetsov linked his keybase profile somewhere. It probably looks neat for communicating with normal users that are stubborn and if you don't have a phone for Signal.

They have not monetised their service effectively, and were purchased by Zoom in May. Make of that what you will - my own view is that their days are numbered, or at least that they will stagnate, because Zoom has little to no need to continue to implement the core of their service, which is publicly verifiable and auditable proofs, beyond whatever they can retrofit into their video conferencing service.

It's not as good as something like Tox, but it's a decent alternative for normal users who would otherwise use discord

Good enough for talking to normal people who are afraid of setting up PGP on their own, and good enough to verify yourself, but I wouldn't rely on it for anything actually confidential. Most communities on Keybase that are public are dead. >>34238 They lost a lot of their userbase after the Zoom purchase, so now all that mostly remains is bots that signed up for those crypto drops they did a while ago.

Last time I tried it (before zoom) it asked for my private pgp key, in the trash it goes now, it was purchased by zoom. so it goes in the trash of the things that went to the trash.

It required my Twitter feed to be public, rather than keying off of the bio. Pretty massive oversight for something that was supposed to be privacy friendly. I transferred out my Stellar Lumens to a wallet I generated and then nuked the client. I'd need a really compelling reason to go back at this point.

>>34276 I've got about $100 in Lumens from the airdrops. Are they even worth doing anything with?
