Is manually creating Win10 AME worth it, installing 10 LTSC hardened as much as possible worth it, or attempting to manually fetch drivers for Win7 SP1 worth it? I tried installing Win7 SP1 on my machine a long while ago, but after I got past the installer and attempted to install the wifi and ethernet drivers, they failed to install possibly due to missing updates. I forgot the exact error message.

From what I've gathered the LTSC version also has spyware issues. I would say it's worth making AME manually if You use software that only works on Windows, or if you don't want to use Linux as your main OS.

>Is manually doing something worth it? If it must be creative, yes. Otherwise, no. Automate it?

>>33503 Always automate.

>>33503 >>33507 The AME project stopped providing community builds in their seed servers due to a cease and desist order I think. I'm not a fan of AME and other things related anyways. I like a cleanish Windows. 10 feels like a huge mess more than 7 on a "clean" install.

It's probably better to use an external firewall with windows.

>>33494 I've honestly stopped caring about Windows after Windows 10 debacle. The only time I one is when I'm flashing phones, consoles, routers, etc. firmware, or when using NTFS/FAT recovery tools, disk checker, and formatter (rare occasion). >failed wifi/eth drivers It's likely packages were missing and required by the installer GUI. Usually it is directx drivers (for graphics programs), dotnet frameworks, and the visual cpp standalone libraries (a lot of them). Let me guess, Nvidia ethernet? >>33527 Windows 10 seems to do ssdp probes and some other kinds of IP "netbios" probes (like the fuarrrk is it doing even, the IP was on a different subnet) within the entire network as I've seen from router logs. It also seemed recently that devices such as phones also like to do this too through mdns. The prowess of cloud botnet is here. Somewhat similar to the "exposure notification."

>>33494 >manually fetch drivers for Win7 SP1 You don't need to, there's a patch on forums.mydigitallife.net which bypasses the ESU check and allows you to get the paid updates for free, directly through Windows update. You need to register on there for the thread to be visible. Installing the .NET updates is a bit tricky though - it requires running a certain patch before updating them, then disabling the patch. Piss-easy, though.

Install Gentoo, that way you don't have to worry about spying and snooping.

>>33601 100% not how that works. Windows comes with extra snooping, but Installing a stock browser no VPN and browsing on gentoo wont do soykaf for you - ChromeOS was built on a gentoo image originally.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2020-10-06 22:41
>>33601 I ran into showstopper technical issues in Gentoo. I wish I could continue using it without such issues.
Marly Krushkhova · 2020-10-06 23:43
>>33751 likely user error
Anonymous · 2020-10-07 02:49
>>33759 Maybe. The issues I'm having are just too unique that I can't find solutions on search engines.
Haruyoshi · 2020-10-13 08:03
>>33601 nah gentoo is bloat. portage is literally wrriten in python and always tends to break after a while. just installl something light and fast like void or openbsd
