I could be speaking completely out of my ass, but I feel like systemd is like that chunk of code that you think is useless, so you delete it, but then you realize it was actually important and you've fuarrrked up your whole program. Are there any major disadvantages to not using systemd? Will I run into compatibility issues?
Miho Iwakura · 2020-10-04 00:56
>>33620 I'm not the person you quoted but systemd isn't KISS mainly. It does a lot for an init system and the more complex something is, the more effort it takes to maintain, secure, and port. That said, compatibility isn't always affected as much as you'd think. OpenBSD can run GNOME for instance and its init system is very simple in comparison.
Cereal Killer · 2020-10-04 01:08
>>33620 I don't use Artix nor am I the person you quoted, but I'll give my two cents. Systemd is problematic because it doesn't follow the Unix philosophy and doesn't seem to have a defined scope, which causes it and whatever software depends on it to be harder to maintain, secure, and port compared to leaner alternatives. That said, things you might not expect would work, like GNOME on distros without systemd or even the BSDs, do. So my advice is to do a bit of research and determine if there's something systemd does in your setup that you can't do without.

>>34626 >Very nice .Post your asciiart collection lainon I didn't see for a while, sorry about that. I assume it's fine to self-promo as long as it's on-topic, and since you asked: https://concealed.world/Media/Art/_index.php?post=badasciiart.php My ASCII art is pretty bad. I made an Eddie recently that I was unsure whether or not I would share, but I'll attach it here. My half-assed rice is the same as it was last month, except a bit darker and without the terminal transparency.

Does anyone do anything interesting to their PS1 (prompt)? Most commonly I see something like '[user@host:~/dir/]$'. Although I find that somewhat superfluous, and just use 'dir $' myself. Stuff that spans multiple lines is equally superfluous. But I got to wondering if there's anything both useful and interesting that anyone does with it. Hopefully this is okay to ask here, I figure this is quite heavily related to the process of ricing.

Mine isn't heavily riced but it works. I got the backgrounds from a /vis/ thread where they posted pictures of powerlines.
