Websites and internet things you've found lately

Neo · 2020-06-16 03:30
I'm so overloaded, everything in the past few weeks but also in general have been so orientated towards going on websites for making money, or going on websites that's making another company money somehow, especially things social media based. Everything must have a profitable purpose behind it, and I'm tired of it, but it's not a "turn everything off, go outside" tired I wanna see things I've never seen on the internet before, old web archives, new sites, documents, unlisted things, visually pleasing things, mysterious things, preferably anything that isn't commerce related (unless its REALLY mf cool), anything beyond the surface. and no fauux pls lol

>>28808 Not to wage slave my own thread but look at the IPFS thread on the catalog. Some lainons made a ipfs swarm just for us. We can create and host our own sites and files in a decentralized manner. Alternatively, you can look at the global ipfs swarm or zero net.

>>28833 I wish gamedev sites had resources for getting the word out on your game. Good places to share it, what kind of people you should network with (e.g. other artists/creators), how to network with them, etc. I understand gamedev is more about the journey than the destination, but it's pretty hard for me to want to work on a game when I feel like nobody would give a damn about it.
Drifter · 2020-06-17 01:02
I wish someone would spam this list with more neocities sites they found that they like. I can never find many interesting blogs or sites there, but it seems insanely popular. I just want a community I can find.

https://www.androidarts.com/ I like this guy's little collection of concept art and tutorials. He did the art for cortex command and space miners or something idk but his little redesigns and hardware experiments/concepts are really neat. Still updates regularly. I love his moe version of the quake series.

For the past few years, I have been finding a very weird set of websites that are seemingly set up in a copy-paste manner or with a bot. I will not post the link here, because it contains nefarious materials. They ALL do. To give you an idea, they are all forums. They are all look like mid-late 2000s generic forums. They differ in the color scheme, spacing, shape, etc, but the content is EXACTLY the same. They all have exactly 7 users 1 being the admin. The admin goes by different names in each site. He/she makes hundreds/thousands of posts leading to illegal content (again, every post is exactly the same on every site). He used to offer it for free, but he now asks for money to gain access (he sells you the key to encrypted files). However, there is no way to make any payment. I tried looking around to see if I could find who this guy is (maybe bitcoin address, etc), but there is no real way to pay for anything! The forums all seem to reset their content periodically. The same posts are made all the time as said, but the timestamp for them keeps changing to recent dates, and the posts change order between updates. These forums are completely disconnected from each other, so it's taken me a while to find them, but I have seen around 4-5 of them. I reported one as a test years ago for said content, but it's still up. Also, 1 or 2 of them, iirc, contained russian text. Do any lainons have any idea what this could be? Is it some kind of operation to sell this stuff? If so, why is there no way to make a payment? Why is it reset so often (maybe it has to do with laws allowing sites 24 hours to delete illegal material)? It's been really bugging me recently, since I've never had anyone to discuss with. I don't have much experience with rare/independent/tor websites like these, so I figured this would be the best place to ask.

Armitage · 2020-06-19 00:05
>>28884 oooh this is the high tech low life mysterious soykaf i like to hear about. when you say "nefarious materials" are you talking about CP? how did you stumble on these forums in the first place? it's really hard to make any inferences without seeing the site myself. can you screenshot it or something (censoring if necessary of course)?
Ein · 2020-06-20 00:22
>>28906 1. Yes 2. I don't remember anymore exactly. I used to spend a lot of my time exploring/hunting dead and small imageboards. Many times, I would find some that didn't have any kind of protection against bots, and so, had many posts made by them. I used to click on the links they left all the time. I ended up finding some pretty weird (not illegal) sites, and through there is how I believe i found the first. The rest were found randomly. Sometimes a stranger in a forum will leave a single link, I would fall into it, clicking into more and more obscure sites until finding them. I just found this one recently while browsing some links i had bookmarked before. I didn't have time to take screenshots of the other forums, to compare, but here are some for one.

I tried looking around to see if I could find who this guy is (maybe bitcoin address, etc), but there is no real way to pay for anything! you probably need to DM them and they will give you a BTC address. Generally for illegal stuff, you use a new BTC address for each transaction and then tumble them into another set of addresses.

>>28946 >tumble them into another set of addresses Wouldn't that still be traceable? Transactions are public records, right? couldn't you simply make a bot that "follows the money" until where they converge (a single account with lots of transactions from random/single use addresses)?
Armitage · 2020-06-20 01:15
>>28948 >couldn't you simply make a bot that "follows the money" until where they converge (a single account with lots of transactions from random/single use addresses)? the point of a tumbler is that they take in money from thousands of users and mix & match it up until tracing it in that way becomes impractical.
XERXES · 2020-06-20 01:16
>>28948 >>28950 oh, also, you don't *necessarily* get the same coins out as you put in. The tumbler just gives you some coins.

>>28808 https://digdeeper.neocities.org I really like this site. Has a lot of good articles that stack up applications and site based off of privacy and freedom. Particularly fond of their email provider write up. It's fairly comprehensive write up. https://digdeeper.neocities.org/ghost/email.html

>>28959 Maybe, but articles like https://digdeeper.neocities.org/ghost/freetardism.html are nonsense. Binary code doesn't replace source code.
Arisu Mizuki · 2020-06-20 23:53
>>28884 The fact that the dates keep changing means something. Most likely it's one big scam. Guy makes some fake forums offering up illegal soykaf, has the posts update so they always seem recent and viable, then he scams people who try to buy from him. Maybe?
Switch · 2020-06-21 22:08
>>28884 Did you just describe chans?
John Rain · 2020-06-22 02:11
>>28961 This is more likely, there are many fake forums online that exist as scams. Not only is there fake content locked behind a paywall (illegal or not) but the posts are usually bots scraping content from other sites and littered in advertisements. It's probably a mix of what you said and trying to beat the ad algorithm game to make money.
Agent Smith · 2020-06-22 09:10
>>28824 What sort of resources? I've thought about making a site sort of like what Reddit was originally supposed to be, but designed more in a chan-like fashion, so only I could create topics/boards and people would be free to contribute posts and links. I've been wanting a pure place where people can share research documents, new findings and be able to easily get together to form groups for coordinated information gathering/archival. I want a place where people can speak freely, but feel inclined to speak professionally and not be distracted or feel superior because someone doesn't have as many fake internet points as them. I just can't get myself to learn a bunch of languages and learn how to protect a server or other things like that. I only know basic systems programming and some HTML4/CSS

>>28960 Well he seems to be more against Stallman than opensource "It is important to differentiate between open source and freetardism - freetards are doing everything to conflate these two, but we can have the former and throw the harmful ideology away. Maybe then we can recognize (and try to fix) the movement's flaws. Of course releasing the source is great, but that does not necessarily mean the software becomes more secure, more quality, or that the users have more freedom. In fact open source introduces its own set of problems, and freetardism has blinded people from this fact, so it has to go." He just kinda argues in a very juvenile way that just because it is open source, it doesn't innately make it better, it just has a better chance of being better. I can kind of agree with this. I mean Facebook can make an opensource app to access the site, but that doesn't mean it is more secure or free (out of the box/repository). But again, he doesn't really do a good job of arguing his points in my opinion. He seems more focused in bringing down GNU and Stallman ideology. Like some of his other articles still though.

Outside of fauux and the couple other websites, Neocities is all secret porn or what? When I look it up on archives I only get links to porn pages. Is that it? It's just yet another porn site with a SFW front?
Elliot Alderson · 2020-08-10 22:56
>>30831 You get porn in archives because it's what people deemed useful to save: "lol, look there's porn on neocities, gotta save that to share with me lads l8er". Outside that it's pretty much a pre-social media web reconstruction of web pages made by teens who are in computers, so expect the lack of deep essence. Here's a peculiar webpage though: https://simplifier.neocities.org A man writes short articles with recipes for simple things like varnish or workshop tools.
