CRYPTO COIN GENERAL
Undisclosed · 2020-06-04 11:27
Since my last crypto post stood the test of time and now it has hit the post limit lets continue here!
Also I feel we are in a very similar time in the Bitcoin Cycle! - Not financial advice, but sub 10k BTC won't be available for long!
Well I will kick off with my meta about Bitcoin and cryptos...
Bitcoin is the Atomic Clock of value. That is its' unique position in all of the universe. It is the most assured thing with pure known amount. The safest store and most known unit of value available. (who knows how much gold is on earth let alone the solar-system).
Bitcoin will represent ALL wealth in the universe.
All other cryptos are BItcoins layer 2 solution....
Having chain separation is the ultimate security. The huge (by far most) hash power and simplicity of BTC is what makes it safe as an ultimate value. If something goes wrong in a chain made for speed or for truing completeness or another technical or economic model it will be isolated to that chain - and not effect the Atomic Clock of Value.
It could happen that things go wrong with eth or chainlink or any of them... the simpler the stronger. The strongest will always be definition of value.
BTC the definition of value.
Eth will be DeFi.
Maybe Nano or similar will be currency.
Monero will be the useful wash wash...
The rest will have to fight it out (for now).
Message ends.

Having just said all this:
I might have a possible attack vector for the whole bitcoin block chain... but its all hot air cuz its more likely there is something i am not understanding than something week with bitcoin (at this point). But if i am on to something how do I disclose it or discuss it with a fully knowledgeable person without compromising BTC security by publicly announcing a possible weakness? and maybe it can be mitigated in code before being talked publicly?
I know it sounds implausible but it was something I saw in Ivan on Tech about Shadow Mining that made me think there might be a weakness. I knew about parallel mining of course but one aspect had not occurred to me before. It would still be hard but nothing like as hard as a 51% attack...!!!!
What do?

Yeah i've been using crypto since 2013 but I no longer think BTC adoption is a good thing. It feels strange. It would be a disaster for surveillance coins to go mainstream, and still it seems like hardly anyone understands this. I truly hope Monero gains more adoption quickly. It's sad that it seems so difficult for people to understand why you can't solve the issue by mixing or swapping coins. Seems possible that there will be a terrible tipping point where BTC is popular and the supply is fractured into dirty coins that people can't even spend, which will jeopardize monero as well. The future of money lies on the table and people are still allowing traceability to become more and more normalised. If Monero had just existed in the beginning then nobody would even consider complete traceability to be acceptable, not even regulators

No Idea what the fuarrrk you're talking about. Are you thinking of Dash - a completely different coin that pretends to be private and had an scam premine?
Just like Bitcoin you can audit the chain and prove how many coins there are, the math is just more complicated but still uses well-proven and simple cryptographic constructions.
>why not just in out to clean?
That does not work. Right now many companies already refuse funds if you use BTC with a shady history. Binance and Bitfinex allow people to trade without identification, but they freeze your funds and demand identification if you associate with dirty BTC. Swapping some dirty BTC for some different dirty BTC does not 'clean' the coin, you still have dirty funds. It creates friction everywhere, especially for merchants who have to pay companies like Chainanalysis if they want to accept BTC. The only way this ends is with mass surveillance and people turning to monero for usecases that need censorship resistance and privacy -- i.e. basically every cryptocurrency usecase

If BTC becomes something most the planet recognize as valuable then people independently will start accepting and using it - effectively cleaning all the coins again - as they could pass through many hands outside of exchanges... exchanges are only there until everything is priced in BTC!

99% of people will stay within platforms that use standard merchant payment gateways. The world is already like this, it is natural. So 99% of platforms will use systems like Chainalysis.
The places accepting "private transfers" will be like darknet markets: but people won't want to keep destroying BTC by putting valuable clean coins in there. If people still used BTC for those private networks, at best there would be a fractured supply of lower-value bad BTC that circulates only on the darknet.
>then the database of what that coin means will be null and void eventually..
I dont understand this. The database will never disappear, that's the point of BTC's immutable ledger
Nguoi La · 2020-06-04 19:35

>Markets determine prices and hence value ratio of things
no, people determine the value for themselves. Markets determine the *price* of goods, not the value. Price, considered as an amount of currency, may be very different from valuation; for instance, a billionaire probably does not value $40 as much as a homeless man. So a billionaire would happily spend $40 on something he barely values at all while a homeless man would only spend $40 on something he considers very important. The market which set the price at $40 was just finding an efficient optimum where sellers could not get more value by changing the price.
>Only because money printer go brrrr - forcing wealth to the wealthy,
BTC is literally printed by computers. It forces wealth to the miners, who are very wealthy.
>BTC will only force wealth to the prudent or prosperous.
>Also as it won't inflate people will mostly on average only depreciate their stacks.
BTC has undergone massive deflation in the past. There is no reason why it can't have inflation, and it has already been heavily financialized.

there are other reasons why inflation happens. Often a currency collapses because people no longer see it as a viable currency and will no longer accept it as payment.
Inflation can happen even when there is a huge supply. In a lot of cases people start using a currency for fuel because there is so much useless supply of it.
>This will not be deflated willingly by the majority of those with skin in the game.

My main concern about Ethereum is privacy. It is not only as transparent as bitcoin but with its account model you even cannot properly use one-time addresses as in UTXO chains but you rather will use one or few accounts. Interacting with dapps makes things worse, now your history is your unique fingerprint. If you write on social networks about dapps you used, it becomes easy to find out your ethereum account in the blockchain. The good part: there is possible to do a lot without leaving the platform and without trusting to centralized exchanges.
The second is scalability. Ethereum blockchain is overloaded. ETH2.0 will not magically solve this and to come in 1-2 years. With many dapps and assets on a single chain the situation becomes worse than in Bitcoin in 2017.

There is no rejection of L2. It just isn't ready yet. Payment channels are being researched.
For the time being, it seems extremely unlikely that crypto will stop being a niche, so dynamic block size does make it more scalable than BTC. Pruning/striping can work very effecrtively at mitigating how much space people need to run a node. Transaction size and verification time continue to improve noticeably as more improvements are made. It won't be long until it is planned to have ring sizes of over 60 without compromising scaling

Sidechains are not L2. It's an independent chain with a gateway to mainchain.

Only small optimizations. No serious win form this.
> Triptych
It's not production ready: too big proofs, to long verification time. Monero stucks with ring size 11 for now. Also, most of the work is done by one person. In contrast, a lot of projects and people work on SNARKs family. Higher security assumptions, trusted setup? Yes, but have you seen the progress there? MPC now scales for thousands participants, not 6 as in Zcash Sprout ceremony.
> might want to get those moneroj back.
Not really. I thought about it, but then I read reddit, another post blaming Zcash. Very tribalistic greedy community, at least the voices on reddit. But many of them have "contributor" mark, not just random pump'n'dump investors. Yes, Zcash has issues, but instead of to help people to understand weak parts in privacy the monero community just saying that zcash bad, monero good.
I believe that the projects which collaborating and sharing knowledge and tech will win, and isolated tribalistic will not. Also, I home that privacy shouldn't be an unique feature of some coin and privacy tech should be usable with any type of assets.

> There is no rejection of L2. It just isn't ready yet. Payment channels are being researched.
there is. Payment channels needs primitives for hashlocks and relative timelocks. They should be done in L1, but there is no active work on that direction, because lightning is very Bitcoin specific as SNARKs is very Zcash specific. And Monero has its very own way and won't do a favor to tech of others. Also, privacy on L2 is a different thing and L1 privacy helps a little with it. Monero people don't want to admit that they are on the same ground with Bitcoin LN there. Because of that, they prefer to reject it completely.
> dynamic block size does make it more scalable than BTC
It doesn't. Monero transactions are more heavier. Dynamic block size does nothing with blockchain bloat. With activity as in BTC, the monero blockchain would be about 4TB now. And synchronization on HDD is pain, then your need 4TB SSD for a full node. And I don't know much about state and RAM requirements. BTC UTXO table is relatively small, but for monero where are no "spent" outputs it will be a bigger problem.
> Pruning/striping can work very effecrtively
Only for some extent. And it's unknown how pruning is safe for privacy.
> planned to have ring sizes of over 60
60 is not a big win over 11. For serious improvement ringsize should be 1000 or more. JoinSplit anonset is significantly higher. In a long term, ring signature design is a way to nowhere.

Regardless of any opinions, it is not debatable that monero is the only technology working now. They have strong researchers analysing all technologies that come out. If something else is developed that actually works, monero will just adopt it. There are obviously weaknesses but it seems to be doing far, far better than anything else.
All 'competitors' are in a state of complete disgrace. The only one to mention is Zcash which already had an inflation bug that they cant prove didnt massively inflate the supply. Centralised, linked to spooks, even worse scalability, unsound opt-in model, community that wants to pander to regulators.
You are wrong about payment channels. There is constant research and it is definitely desired and planned. Atomic swaps are high priority and need similar new constructions

> it is not debatable that monero is the only technology working now
Maybe it's the better option for practical privacy for now. But it is not "the only". Monero is only better than Zcash because of the more mature software e.g. wallets.
> that they cant prove didn't massively inflate the supply
it's visible how many coins goes from the pool. But I don't want discuss it in such biased manner. Monero people only can say how Zcash is bad, and why Monero is better. They cannot compare strongest and weakest part of both projects.
> You are wrong about payment channels
I'll wait and see. L2 paymant channel based network cannot be done by a single upgrade. It needs a lot of work, and year of ecosystem development. For now thay say: "not many people use Lightning Network, we don't need it right now in Monero", and after few year, with adoption of BTC LN they will say: "well, LN is useful, lets implement it in Monero". Bit it will requires a few more years to pursue BTC LN then.
This annoys me more. Who decide which features of network are more important to implement first, which are less importan and can wait? In Monero they it should go through MRL and the main Monero project decision mechanism which is not established yet. And more, they regularly break backward compatibility. There are no conditions to be a platform for building an ecosystem. All the ecosystem projects they have are 3rd party wallets, explorers and exchange services.
For a platfrom it's important to implement general primitives. There are no Lightning Network and atomic swaps in Bitcoin at consensus level, just HTLCs. Ethereum knows nothing about all the tokens, DeFi and whatever, just they all are just an EVM bytecode. There is a space for different solutions compete each other on the same platfrom. If there is no competition in a blockchain ecosystem, the only competition occurs between blockchains. And I cannot say Monero has good chances here. The only what Monero people say now: XMR is a better private fungible cryptocurrency among all the "surveillance coins" and broken solutions like Zcash. You see, chainalisys monitors Zcash. Because of it just buy and use xmr. Don't think about the future, just buy before it is too late. But what if it is only chance for now to sell XMR on high price or to do some pump because that unique advantage in privacy will not last long. And because of this they say that adaptive block weight is a scalability solution and the other stupid things. Monero development is slowing down now. Check the github, check the frequency of network upgrades.

I have never seen anyone in the monero community say anything like this. If anything it annoys me that they actively discourage people from buying for speculation. Maybe you're following some toxic places like reddit?
From following real activity by the researchers on IRC etc I see no sign that it is slowing down. They aren't "waiting" to start developing payment channels, they are doing what they can; they can't force things into existence. Not many wallets can work with z-addresses. Even they can, they aren't very private yet.
ZecWallet Lite allows to work with z-addresses, but has no coin select features and reveal some data to lightwallet servers.
ZecWallet Fullnode protects privacy better, but cannot encrypt the wallet file.
No network-level protection yet, e.g. dandelion++, tor, mixnets.

Two new projects you may want to know:
https://www.aleo.org/ and https://codaprotocol.com/
Both rely a lot on newest zero-knowledge proof tech for compressing blockchain and/or hide information.
Aleo - UTXO-based, minable, private, with private offchain contracts and effective lite clients. No more onchain bloat with code and no more gas.
Coda - account-based, PoS, less private bit with off-chain contracts, allows to drop the transaction history an only the accounts state need to be stored, effective lite-clients.

As long as privacy is opt-in it's going to fall short. I heard there was a fork of it that only allowed shielded transactions, but I don't know if much has come of it.

At that point, you're doubling the number of opt-ins. One for choosing your privacy altcoin, and one for the transactions themselves. If you're hoping for privacy in Bitcoin, the transparent ledger is completely antithetical to that goal. Unless I'm misunderstanding how you define an altcoin.

BREEV Network’s mission is to create a socially conscious platform that is in touch with the day-to-day realities of people of color. We at BREEV are tired of seeing crypto marketplaces and other economic institutions dominated by privileged upper-class white males and are not going to stop until we create real change. Aligning ourselves with the philosophy of the Black Lives Matter movement, BREEV refuses to stand by silently as people like George Floyd and Jacob Blake are shot dead because of the color of their skin. Our very presence in the marketplace is an act of rebellion against white privilege and we hope you join us in changing the face of marketplaces for generations to come.
The BEST Platform
The Black Economic Support Trust (BEST) platform aims to become the Black Amazon as well as the Black Kickstarter/GoFundMe. On the BEST platform, one can initiate their own project or movement that serves to strengthen their communities. Whether it be a clothing outlet or a new way for people to come together, the BEST platform is the key to bringing prosperity to all Black communities.

In the UK they are just like a normal cash point... as in no apps to downlaod or anything odd...
first £100-£250 no KYC, just scan wallet QR code and insert cash, photo screen for receipt.
more than £250 needs a phone number, need text message confirm.
Over £1k need drivers licence scan etc...
£2 per use + 7.5-12% transaction fee.
Using for lots of £100 acquisitions means totally anon BTC for a fee of ~12%. - Worth it if you ask me.
They only let 3 or 4 transactions to a single wallet over a few days, but its not like you can't make multiple wallets is it now!

Wownero is a CPU-mineable privacy-centric memecoin. It is a software fork of Monero with a lite version of RandomX (1MB scratchpad), a ring size of 22, and a faster difficulty adjustment. Wownero has a deflationary finite supply of 184,467,440 coins with a slow and steady emission over 50 years. Wownero is a fairly launched coin with no premine, instamine, or dev tax.
Wow is a secure, private, and untraceable memecoin. It is open-source and accessible to all. With Wow, you are interdimensional bank! Your accounts and transactions are private until the end of time...

longer emission curve = more decentralization
more memes = ???
You could tell someone about wow today and it would still be a good bet for them to mine it with a home CPU for many years. Monero the emission curve will flatten by 2022(wow dosnt flat for 50 years). Monero is THE cipherpunk investment. I would invest in monero because thats how you win but I would join wownero because some things in life should be pointless and wownero helps u remember this.
Wow is very welcome to other hackers, devs, and weirds, some of the Monero devs use it has a testnetwork before monero (bullet proofs and randomx were on wow first). Most of the best memes in moonero are from wownero folks too :P. Its all same famfam.

What are the current options for earning crypto, particularly Monero, anonymously? Is there a site that catalogues these? I'm talking about:
>ad networks

I figure the risks are too high with buying, as the glowies have a lot of experience with laundering schemes and the like. For real freedom, it needs to be possible to earn decent amounts of money completely in the dark.

XMR mining will be dried up in the next couple years - thats why its harder, you wont see strong profit unless the coin does another 10x-100x. Its a better bet(odds) to mine its sister memecoin Wownero which has a 50 year emission. I dont think the monero devs are dumb to this difference either, as a good number of them are directly involved with wownero development.
Its about distribution models, sure in 10 years of printing monero you can build an adequate exchange network but there are not enough players in the game. Monero is like a corporation of hackers that you are buying into and using their money as utility. A longer distribution model means there is more potential for an equal distribution globally, which also means a greater chance that the end user will feel like they are using their OWN money vs company money.

Monero has a funding system for projects if you are creative. Monero has a funded marketing team which pays people to create good memes. If you post in the right places you can get lots of tips too.
Ive made $5-10 a day when I meme for monero. Its not much, but when you add in mining for heat during the winter its not a bad take.

It is centralized, they barely maintain the code to keep up with BTC, the long-term price chart is catastrophic.
Most importantly they are no longer following BTC. They are diverging to do a very risky and pointless mimblewimble implementation that pretends to be for privacy, but the design won't actually be very private, so it won't do much. I think the chance of something going badly is quite high since they have no protocol developers (they are paying someone new who used to work Grin... literally one person)
Jane Doe · 2020-10-16 06:37
>>31939
I understand how you can say that in some sense (e.g. people treating all monero transactions as suspicious) but there are other important factors.
1) Chain analysis can be done on the linked transparent transactions, breaking privacy.
2) User experience: people are dumb and confused and lazy. More options is bad. Complicated options is terrible - hardly anyone can understand best practices in order to properly achieve privacy. Some people will just use transparent transactions with a "privacy coin" and not understand that they are at risk. The only way for USABLE privacy for the average person, with good user experience, is for it to be mandatory. This links with point (1): with opt-in privacy, lack of adoption and lazy people will ALWAYS in practice lead to broken privacy, according to both history and logic.
3) If a website accepts something with mandatory privacy like monero then you know it is ok, but with opt-in privacy you have to worry if you'll get your funds frozen for being suspicious; even if you just by chance end up with suspicious coins. Opt-in privacy leads to uncertainty and risk.
