How would one go about making debian look cyberpunk? I hate the modern look.

Linux noob here so take what I say with a grain of salt but I believe what your looking for is called "ricing" or atleast using text based programs, i'd say the arch wiki recommended programs is where you want to go

Install just the base system. Then i3-gaps or your wm of choice and start ricing. I recommend compton and i3-gaps for starters. With pywal (https://github.com/dylanaraps/pywal) you can eaily change your colorschem to match your background. If you want more control, you could try this site for example: https://terminal.sexy/. For a music visualizer I recommend cli-visualizer (https://github.com/dpayne/cli-visualizer).
Those are just the tools I use but there are plenty more out there. Check out r/unixporn for some examples (most of them are pretty boring though). Have fun with ricing.

Or if you think it's too much of a hassle to configure and learn a tiling wm like i3, you could install kde. Apparently it's pretty easy to rice. Tiling wms are fun though. I find them to be much better for my workflow and they really compliment the cyberpunk aesthetic if that's what you're going for. But here's a video of how to rice your kde https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyz4-KZOzyI

That's sexy as hell but what do you do with it? It's not exactly realistic to use it as a "daily driver". Still, sexy as hell.

I'd give half my kidney, arm, leg, eyes, ears and testicles for a P3 phosphor CRT monitor like that. The only thing i can do now is set my terminal emulator font color to the P3 color. (approximately FFB700 but color space and other monitor settings effect this number)

(Not on debian;) I use the Calm Window Manager, using X resource ``*background: black''. Not exactly cyberpunk, but quite clean.
Also, occasionally, I make some ``crazy'' (their words, not mine) aesthetic choices; a few weeks ago, I disabled window borders.
Unrelated: recently each my colleague enters his via my machine only perfectly covertly.

1. Pick a cool window manager.
You can take the tiling route or the floating route.
Good tiling window managers:
>awesomewm
>herbstluftwm
>xmonad
>i3wm
>dwm
Good floating window managers:
>window maker
>fvwm
>icewm
>cwm
2. Pick a terminal emulator.
The only good choices are xterm, urxvt and st.
Install whatever else you need, RTFM and configure everything to your liking.
Use the terminal for everything you can.
That's basically it.

You certainly don't have to give all that! There are ones to be had on ebay for like 50 bux. Some even have a composite input, which is pretty easy to output from some devices natively or you can just route hdmi through a converter. Others require using an rs-232 serial connection or something and you basically use them as they were originally intended; as a dumb terminal. You might also need to find an old XT keyboard for this. I have one of those too :P As far as phosphor colors, I have a green and a couple ambers. Still need to do some work on one of the amber tubes. I would love to get my hands on a pale blue phosphor VT220 one of these days...

You can do quite a bit. Depends on what your computing life is like. Do you spend a lot of time programming and reading text-intensive websites? ELinks is surprisingly capable. If you use option number two above, you can use it as a terminal for a machine that also has other monitors. What's more cyberpunk than a CRT text terminal? One of those alongside some anachronistic, futuristic flat panels with full graphics.

could you please elaborate on why are those the only good choices? i personally find xterm soykafty. it's slow, and much less customizable than most modern emulators, not to mention it doesn't work with ibus input method so you can't use anthy to put in japanese characters. t. satisfied xfce4-terminal user (without actual xfce DE)

I'm not sure what do you mean by looking cyberpunk OP. I also have debian but I've installed debian testing so I'm not sure if that's +1 cyberpunk points. I use i3 without blocks. I don't care about window managers and desktop environments. I used to use exwm which the most comfortable to do my computing with, the only reason why I've switched is because of superficial reasons. I wanted to be able to see my background image once in a while and I wasn't able to figure it out how to do it in emacs. But yeah, perhaps you should try some kind of a wm, even if you don't want to modify it you can learn the keybindings, it's usually Mod1+something. It's low effort and "normal people" would think you're an uber leet for switching windows and launching programs with dmenu. I assume running the terminal would be considered cyberpunk, st is very customizable though I haven't done anything with it. Perhaps learn how to use some cli programs, such as nnn/ranger/whatever for viewing directories, imagemagic for customizing images, cat/grep/etc. Maybe you should lurk the "Desktop general" thread and ask about the programs other lainons use.

Cyberpunk aesthetic is pretty subjective, what kind of related media do you enjoy? You can try and mimic whatever designs they for their technology, example being the OS used on the computers in Lain, but I think anything that isn't the default of Debian would fit would be considered "cyberpunk" since it's something you customized yourself to work for your needs.

i already fell for the CRT meme, don't make me get one of those now.
can you use the ones with component output as a normal monitor? What does your pc (i assume you use some kind of linux/bsd?) Detect them as? Would i have to boot it without a x server or is it possible to startx on other monitors and simultaneously use it as a normal terminal?

I'm new here.
Maybe this is a dumb question.
I'll ask anyways.
What do you mean by looking 'cyberpunk'?
