Good Lucking Tech

Let's not beat around the bush here: this is a thread where we post tech that we find aesthetically pleasing. Whether it's practical or not is another question. Feel free to explain why you like it if you'd like, or just post images. I'll start with some popular choices: >IBM Model M 1388032 - grey variant of this classic with the silver on black logo ups the industrial coolness of it all >Symbolics Space Cadet - everyone seems to like this one, it looks like something out of a science fiction movie >IBM Thinkpad 701 - the design of these was considered so bold and unique that multiple design museums own some

UUUGHHH I've been looking for one of these on ebay for years. I think it might be a lost cause. It's an old police cruiser data entry terminal. Has an Intel 386SX processor, runs Windows 3.1. So gorgeous and perfectly cyberpunk. I actually found one when I first looked on ebay, but it was a little pricey and I figured hey, I got a hit first try--maybe one will come along for less. Nope. Never saw another. Some asshole on reddit found one and put blue LEDs under the keyboard and soykaf LCD display behind an ugly pane of marred-up plexi in place of that wonderful amber CRT. I swear I'm not usually such a purist--I'd be fine with replacing the guts if you fuarrrking must--but this execution was so egregious and tasteless that it made me vomit in my mouth a little. https://www.cryptomuseum.com/crypto/motorola/mdt9100/

Since you posted a model M--I'm currently typing on this beige beast. I kind of like the d-pad shaped arrow keys and 34 GODDAM F-KEYS! Lots of macro for my CAD work. I'm thinking about putting a trackpoint module underneath the key in the center of the arrow keys so it fuctions as a mouse, too.

This sweet terminal doesn't just sport a round CRT and a duck-hunt-style IR gun for cursor control, it also has an ash tray because they couldn't convince technicians in that era to abstain from a smoke break and they needed them to stick around and watch for Soviet ICBMs or whatever. So ash tray. Way before the ones you could buy and stick in your CD-rom tray.
