What do you think about the EOMA68 computercards (and other parts)? I'm really a big fan of the idea, and it seems to be coming together pretty nicely. I wanted to pre-order one but i'm kinda hesitant because they're a bit passed their promised shipping date. And i don't want to get librem'd.

2 GB RAM
8 GB NAND

All the eco virtue signaling is a bit nauseating but I like the idea of decoupling the cpu+motherboard from the physical housing of the device. Speaking as someone with a growing collection of non-functional laptops with perfectly fine cases, screens, batteries, chargers etc. Thanks for sharing.

It's sad that hardware has become so opaque and malicious shortly after free software has gained so much traction. It's good to see attempts like this.

MNT Reform is the most exciting of these projects for me.

Quite skeptical of this, but should they prove to be able to manufacture such devices cheap enough for a low-income individual to consider then I probably should as well.
I think open hardware is a step in the right direction as well as it allows people to freely develop under that platform and would also alleviate the difficulty of urging people to adopt to it. Bar the price, of course.

Just preorder glitterboy, it's like only 60 bucks.
I did ages ago. Just consider what they're up against, delays are to be expected. Doesn't make it a scam or whatever.
Looking at the updates they seem to finally be almost ready.
Maybe I shouldn't be listened to though as I've also preordered the Librem5 and believe they are actually going to deliver what was promised, hopefully by the end of this year.

I'm more confidant in EOMA68 releasing than I am of Librem5 actually being a fully free phone.

You're right.
I'm gonna do it.

No phone will ever be FSF approved, the way cell networks work right now is inherently incompatible with privacy and freedom.
But separating the baseband, having physical kill switches for all the relevant things, fully releasing the hardware spec, and shipping with an FSF approved OS is about as ideal as you can get given the existing infrastructure and legal requirements. And I think they can and will do at least this.
And regardless, a handheld touchscreen device I can install any GNU operating system on might be worth it just for that. Won't be any worse hardware wise than using a free OS on the vast majority of normal motherboards.
