News/RSS sources
XERXES · 2019-05-13 13:49
Heya lain, so I've been trying to streamline my news consumption via a collection of RSS feeds instead of using traditional news sources and obnoxious clunky websites, and I'm wondering if any of you knew of any good sources for news on technology. In particular, I'm looking for news sources related to tech rights, privacy, censorship, etc. I've already collected some of the more obvious ones such as slashdot's "Your rights online"(http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdotYourRightsOnline), Techdirt(https://www.techdirt.com/techdirt_rss.xml), and EFF's "Deeplinks"(https://www.eff.org/rss/updates.xml), but I'm interested in finding more sources so I can kinda keep my ear to the ground with regard to this stuff.
Of course, other RSS feed links are welcome, but these are the topics that I'm really concerned with at the moment.

how do you consume your rss feeds?
i wonder if there's something akin to semantic search engines to break it further down to minmax the information processing - after all even if you remove the adds, you still have a lot of news wasting attention at no gain for yourself.

i typically use quiteRSS on my computer. I pretty much just read the feeds as they come in at this point, I don't do any filtering beyond that, mainly due to ignorance, to be honest.

In addition/instead, you could subscribe to link aggregators like Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/domain/techdirt.com/.rss). This way you could find comments and subs/hubs that may be relevant.

Woa that's kinda neat, didn't know about that.

I'm using a js script on my personal homepage to embed the feeds into collapsible sections.
Attempting to make my new window screen be the only page i need to visit and have all my personal / helpful links / notepad

yeah, I'm not too interested in reading comments, but I suppose there might be a few subreddits of value.

ya know, I used to have one of these back in the day, probably like a decade ago. I should make a new one, this is a good idea.

>minmax the information processing
It can be done, but takes time and you can't delegate it to another person/AI perfectly.

Actually, no, it wasn't, but I appreciate the link.

I had no idea that was a thing

I'll have to check out quiteRSS. I've been told for years that RSS is far superior to most other platforms, but I've never actually gone through the steps of downloading a reader and finding nice feeds.

Thanks to this thread I gave QuiteRSS reader a try and RSS in general. I really like it so far.
If anyone knows RSS feeds related to cyberpunk, feel free to share. So far I got the RSS of NeonDystopia, which has interesting posts and Cyberpunk Online, which seems to be more about the visuals.

RSS is simple and effective. I like having control over my news feeds, tailoring my news to what interests me, and being informed about the subjects that I care about without being weighed down by all of the other stuff in the news cycle that I can't stand (For example: I know nothing about politics, and I notice that everyone is angry and has an agenda, so politics news is useless to me, as I know I'm too ignorant to sift through the bullsoykaf). I also like keeping my friends and family informed about the narrow niche that my RSS feeds cover, since I'm the resident computer/security expert. It helps to keep me engaged.
