What is a linux compatible alternative to Adobe Premiere?
Appleman1234 · 2019-03-21 20:11
>>16293 There are lots of alternatives to Adobe Premiere, that run on Linux, but what user experience they provide and what functionality they have varies. First option you can run Adobe Premiere using Wine. Other alternatives I have used at one point or another include: Kdenlive https://kdenlive.org/en/ This has a bit of a learning curve as most non linear video editors do, but is quite fully featured. Kdeenlive has a reputation for being buggy, but I haven't personally had any issues. And other users have said its stability has increased over time. Openshot https://www.openshot.org/ This works well for simple video editing. Shotcut https://www.shotcut.org This works well for simple video editing. Shotcut has a reputation for being buggy, and I have experienced some issues using it. Cinelerra http://cinelerra.org/ This has a learning curve, but the results can be worth it. Avidemux I have used this before, but when I used it was a long time ago, and I heard it has gotten much better since. Other alternatives I have not yet used include: Piviti http://www.pitivi.org/ LiVES http://lives-video.com/ Lightworks https://www.lwks.com/ Freemium, not open source. Davinci Resolve https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve Freemium, not open source. But whether these alternatives will work for your use case, which you haven't specified in your opening post is yet to be determined. If you could write a more detailed opening post in future that would be appreciated. There are various video editors for linux, none is good enough for professionals tho, not even for a memer on youtube.

I just heard of one called Olive which is sup posed to be good. Blender is your friend.
Fred Nurk · 2019-03-24 15:10
>>16329 hmmm, Olive seems pretty interesting. It has a layout similar to premiere.

Finding a passable alternative to Premiere is relatively easy, but I've yet to find a package that can do everything that After Effects can, and it's honestly the one thing stopping me from going full Linux

>>17059 Not an expert but I've seen these being thron around, are these not what you want? https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/ https://natrongithub.github.io/

>>17060 Those are great, and I do use Natron for a few things when I can, but just the fact that After Effects comes as this complete compositing and motion graphics suite, as in I can produce assets and have all of these useful effects. Maybe I'm just not well versed enough in Natron yet, but I'd love to find an alternative that is functionally identical
