I quite proficient with Linux. I'm looking to install Gentoo to have full control over my computer. As I look though the installation handbook for UEFI systems I do not understand much past "Installing the Gentoo base system." When installing Gentoo, do most people just copy and paste commands without understanding whta they do? I feel guilty doing this. I'd like to understand everything I'm doing.
>Where can I find resources to learn to how to install Gentoo and know more about Linux?
It's such a niche topic, YouTube tutorials are garbage, no books exist, and I don't know where to start.

What are you finding hard to understand?
There is no shame on using genkernel on your first install.

Could never get genkernel to work for me.

The guide makes it harder than it needs to be. I usually just run `make localmodconfig` followed by `make menuconfig` and enabling lvm/luks + intel graphics. I then use genkernel to build an initramfs. Go to the Gentoo wiki page for what you need to know what kernel options to enable.

If you are quite proficient with Linux , then what part of the Gentoo Handbook are you having trouble with ?
Have you tried asking on the Gentoo Forums or Gentoo IRC ?, or even asking on #lainchan or #techsupport channels on the Lainchan IRC.
Or looking at resources like the attached PDF ? or
https://linuxconfig.org/installing-and-using-gentoo-linux-getting-started-guide-for-beginners or
https://www.tecmint.com/gentoo-linux-installation-guide/
or looking at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/downloads/stable/LFS-BOOK-8.4-NOCHUNKS.html and comparing and contrasting what it does vs the Gentoo handbook ?
