Hey lainons. I wrote a blog post about FOSDEM 2019. I figured you might like it.

this was a really nice read. you've motivated me to try going to the next open source or security conference i have a chance to attend; i usually don't attend conferences because i don't consider myself a strong programmer, but i see now that it's a terrible attitude to have. i also had a belief that you have to be really social to enjoy these because of my past experiences with them, but again i should change that attitude and enjoy some interesting talks.

I'm so glad to hear that. Are there any specific conferences that have your interest?

relative to my locale there's a pretty interesting infosec con approaching called b-sides, which i attended once as a student a couple of years ago. it was small, with maybe 300-400 people. there was a lock picking village and an impressive ctf event that seemed to be focused on beginners, which i thought were remarkable community gestures. but there were also quite a few talks that seemed like industry pitches designed to seed commerce-friendly fear, concern, and interest. since i haven't traveled in a long time i'll start paying attention to announcements and try to take a little hacker vacation.

I did the same as OP.
(a day or two after the event)
It is cool to see that FOSDEM is an actual relatively big event. I taught that it was something smaller. https://robinwils.gitlab.io/articles/fosdem.html

Nice read. I hadn't heard about Memex either but it's something that really excites me. Already installed and goofing around with.
