Greetings, lains. I am trying to run Firefox portable on a flash drive. The only real problem I'm having is that's its unbearably slow. Granted, this is being done on USB 3.0 flash drive in a 2.0 port, and I'm sure the 2.0 port is slowing it down some, but it shouldn't lag like it does. What could be slowing its performance down like this?

Does the work machine have an aggressive AV system? Have you tried to run this on one of your computers?

We do have a very resource heavy AV, however, even when I run it on my own computer, on a USB 3.0 port, its still unbelievably slow. Its not over-consuming on resources like CPU or RAM either.
Ideas?

The only time browsers write to disk is to change settings, store cookies, and cache data, the latter being the bulk of it. I'd suggest trying to disable caching the settings, and perhaps using a program like umatrix to recover some of the lost bandwidth efficency. You could also try using https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable which is what I used in middle school for this kinda thing, they claim to optimise packages for removable media but I don't recall any details of what they actually do. For future reference this question would've been a good candidate to put in the smaller questions thread >>12035
