Linux Music Players

The Oracle · 2019-02-19 06:23
I'm all for Banshee, but its rather old and outdated. I give up on developers at MusicBee ever porting to Linux (although to be fair it would be a lot of work porting MusicBee). What's your favorite music player? Ideally, I need: >bulk ID3 tag editing >a user interface that focuses on album covers, similar to old versions of itunes >can integrate with MP3 players with SD cards >can integrate with Android

>>15773 I think EMMS in emacs can do all these things.

Lollypop has an iTunes inspired look and can edit tags with EasyTag. Whenever I plug in my phone it shows it on the sidebar so I'm assuming you can drag and drop music to it or something. Haven't personally tried it out. Only con I can think of is that it's GTK3, not everyone is into that.

Ive found that Clementine is the only one that works for me. It loads 172gb of music well.

I use deadbeef, it has a very minimal ui and loads music very very fast

I wrote my own one to satisfy my niche needs. It's like mocp, but allows for background images and uses vim keybindings. Written in ruby ontop of SDL2. It loads songs very slowly, but caches everything as a workaround. to be honest I'm glad it works at all.

>>15773 I can sympathize with wanting to have musicbee ported, it was my music player otp as well. I've since replaced my primary os with void and came to the conclusion that it's simplest to use multiple utilities that handle all I need. I use cmus to play and browse my library, a short script to launch an image viewer with cover art (could easily be modified to replace the image every few seconds) and kid3 (has both a tui and gui version) for bulk tag edits. I gave up on musicbee and run on foobar2000 now for the few instances in which I find myself on winblows. Back when I had an android phone, there was an fdroid app that remote controlled cmus and it worked fine, you just had to be in the same network and were able to easily connect your cmus remote instance to the app, but I've since dropped smartphones. I'm still nostalgic on running around with a 64gb stick with my library and a portable musicbee installation, but my library has since grown too large, and musicbee just doesn't work on linux.

This does not fit your ideal, but mplayer is good if you can organize your music yourself.

Does anyone here know of a music player that allows for more customized sorting? I need my albums to be sorted by directory paths and their contents to be sorted by order/name

>>16035 Check out Sayonara player. It can show your library as a directory tree, and when you select a folder, its contents show up in another panel, which you can sort by track number/title/whatever.

gmusicbrowser is toppest, godtier for organization mostly i just use mpv now though, quick and easy

>>15773 Try "strawberry" - a fork of Clementine.
