Hey Lainons, after virtual years of distro hopping and putting myself through gruesome learning cliffs to try and have the "best" Linux distro (started with Arch Linux and had an inoperable computer for weeks before realizing my computer was too fuarrrked for dual booting or any Linux distro), I have finally decided to stay on Manjaro for now, since I loved Arch (even after the painful learning experiences which helped immensely) but I don't know what packages I need, so it seems like a good balance. I know about the past security issues with Manjaro and some other issues but for now it's pre-riced close to what I want and the packages are already in here so even if it's not a fully riced Gentoo system, it'll be a good way for me to get my feet wet. Right now I'm still on Windows 10 so any way I can get away from Windows completely is a good way to me. So Lainons, how would I get my feet wet into Linux? I'm hoping that eventually I'll be able to convert my knowledge to other distros and improve my computer and electronics knowledge, so what PDFs and books should I be studying while I slowly move way from Windows? Cheers.

Ain't no other way to get your feet wet other than stepping into this swamp, step by step, leave all your bel^H^H^H windows behind and dive in head first.

>>15722 There are several active threads on linux distros which I'd encourage you to check out: >https://www.lainchan.org/tech/res/15555.html >https://www.lainchan.org/tech/res/11819.html >https://www.lainchan.org/tech/res/13044.html As for learning linux, I'd recommend How Linux Works from No Starch Press as a good starting point. There's a link to a PDF in this thread: >https://www.lainchan.org/tech/res/15459.html That, and have something you want to do with your computer other than make it looks nice. For starters, try learning to do useful things with shell scripts: backups, note-taking, file organization, automated downloads, etc.

Just use Debian with Gnome, it is objectively the best.

>>15722 what are you doing on Windows 10 now that you can't do on Manjaro?

>>15724 Cheers, reading it now. >>15737 Not much, I've been perusing the packages and I don't think I found anything that I can only do on Windows, most things I use on Windows have some really good alternatives on Linux too so I'm very happy about that. Experimenting with Void Linux now, probably not productive since now I'm not on Manjaro anymore, but once I get LXQt set up I think I'll finally be at peace with the distro, now that I know my packages and what I want. Thanks for the tips all, I appreciate it.
