What are some good portable media players that support rockbox that look decent and have looooong battery life

Last time I checked they don't even make them-- smartphones are so cheap that there's no market, except for weird hipster security geeks like us. You can get a sansa clip from a few years ago, but I don't think it's worth it. Like the certain models of aesthetic nokia bricks that now sell for $175, you're not going to get your money's worth. DIY!

Hey, I have a Sandisk Sansa e260 which I flashed Rockbox onto.

I have been using it for about 3 years now and it's great. It's full of .flac and .ogg files and sounds great. I love it. I've never measured the batter life but it's a lot better than my smartphone.

I took the advice to get a Sansa Clip, but the Radio Shack I went to had none. That should tell you how long ago this was.
What they did have was a Sansa Clip Zip, so I bought that. I don't believe I used the stock firmware for anything; it works nicely with Rockbox. It doesn't have a great battery life, I don't think. It lasts around eight hours, I suppose. I haven't bothered playing with the battery-saving settings much beyond screen brightness.
I paid near $40 for mine, but apparently they're not manufactured any more and are three times as expensive, so I suppose you won't end up buying this model anyway.

I've bitten the bullet sometime last year and got myself a fiio m3. It was discounted and cost me 50 yurodollars, and I'm more than happy for the price. It has button controls, a screen with a ridiculously good resolution considering how small it is, albeit bad viewing angles (typical for older TFT displays). The player only weighs 40g (!) and has a pretty small, in my opinion good form factor. The design is also sleek. It comes with 8GB internal storage, though I was able to expand it by 128GB with a micro sd card. Amazingly this thing got a full day of battery life, which I can attest. I didn't exactly benchmark it, but I don't have to charge it more than once a week, sometimes less, I'm entirely content with that. On the audio side, the frequency response is one of the best I found for this price range, and it has a nice amount of output wattage. The specs itself look really solid, and do shine when I use the player to output to a good surround sound system, though I do think it's a bit autistic to look for such quality when using these devices for not very expensive headphones. You can't install rockbox on it but the thing never connects to botnets as it got no internet functionality and as their firmware uses GPL components, you can force them to send you a copy of their source code (see http://www.fiio.net/en/policy).
The reviews are overly positive too, I can only recommend. Spec sheet can be found here http://www.fiio.net/en/products/47/parameters.

oh it also handles lossless audio formats at pretty high qualities (FLAC 48 kHz/24 bit, WAV 96 kHz/24 bit), which is another plus.

I have an older and dumber fiio that I use with Marshall headphones and sometimes with a Bose speaker. The sound quality is top notch and it plays everything. Also the battery runs for weeks when you use it like a normal human being (which I am not)

22 hours with my rockbox'd clip+ of 7 years.
The fiio sheklers stand no chance versus the clip.
