Best all round desktop and mobile OS
Yu-ichi · 2018-02-03 22:51
Good evening. I'm curious to know which operating system you feel is "best." By best I mean which OS is built well, is stable, is secure, offers a wide range of compatibility, and is easy for even non tech people to use. I use Windows 10 mostly because it offers the best amount of software and plays games well. However, I have heard others say that Mac OS is superior, and that even though Linux is very capable, it does not "fit" well with the needs of a desktop user. Also, which mobile OS do you believe meets these same requirements? What are your thoughts? Thank you.

I recommend any newbie friendly GNU/Linux distribution, like Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, ElementaryOS... Now I don't have much experience with Windows or Mac, since I have my own (nerd) reasons to hate them.

How so? Many beginner-friendly distros offer very similar user experience to that of a commercial operating systems. And unless your software needs are very specific (newest video games, needing windows software for work) you can most definitely get all the software you need, or very capable alternatives. And in terms of stability and security, it's vastly superior.

The people who say mac os is superior are usually just pretentious hipsters, lainon.
For ABSOLUTE beginners, ubuntu or windows.
For people who can learn from their mistakes, void or arch.

I prefer Temple OS for everyday use. I's stable, lean and secure, just what an blackhat hacker like me needs. A right tool to do the right job. It also has a good variety of bundled video games and an Oracle to guide me through this tough life.

Obviously it depends entirely on what you want to use it for. They're all "built well, stable, secure, and compatible" by any reasonable standard, and ease of use is subjective. I'm not sure what you're getting at with this OP other than trying to start an OS flame war so I'll just say they all have different capabilities that aren't easily summed up with a direct comparison.

I agree with you. Idk what OP means by "desktop user". Most people who have an actual desktop computer (vs. a laptop) these days are gamers. I can see why gamers wouldn't want to use Linux, but if he's talking about desktop users in the traditional sense (i.e. web browsing, email, light general computing tasks, etc.) Linux works perfectly fine. Plus in my experience it runs better on the old hardware someone who doesn't care about computers is likely to have.

Mac OS is a unix that can reliably run proprietary software. If you ignore the hype and marketing, that's all it comes down to. I keep stringing along a 2012 macbook because I frequently need *something* to run whatever proprietary freeware people just assume I have. It's not that I like OSX over Linux, it's just that I prefer OSX to Windows for situations when I can't easily use Linux.

There's no such thing as "completely better than" anymore. It depends on what kind of user you are and what you'll use it for.
If you prefer gaming and software/hardware compatibility, go for Windows.
If you prefer ease of access and comfort to stupid levels, go for Mac/iOS
If you prefer total customization and you're completely pro privacy, go for linux.
It's as simple as that.

No I don't want to start an OS flame war, but I can see how it may look like that. I was simply curious whether or not there is on single OS which is truly superior to others. But it seems as though it really depends on the end user.

There is no way you will get a definite answer for that, everyone has thier own favorites.

>Get Devuan. Are you retarded? Can you only use facebook and microsoft word? Devuan does those things. Preferably have a smart person set up libreoffice for you so it defaults to some proprietary soykaf when you click "Save As". Done.
>Get android. Are you retarded? Can you only use facebook and candy crush semen saga? Android does those things. Preferably have a smart person set up a password or turn off cloud sharing so you don't end up like Jennifer Lawrence. Done.
Linux is swell. I don't know why you'd voluntarily be a fuarrrkin scrub with Mac OS
