Workstation Thread?

Not sure if lainons are the type to have a particular PC setup, but if you do, show us, Lain. Laptops would be fine too.

Is this the new desktop thread owo
In all seriousness, I assume this is basically a battlestation thread, so here's my workspace I guess.

When I released that i released how much of a good friend my PC has been all these years

Yes that's what I intended.
That's very elaborate Lain, can you walk us through it?

Just realised how potato that photo is so here's a better one.
So, on the left is my main desktop, 3 monitors and associated peripherals. Under the desk to the right is parts storage, in boxes mostly.
Then I have the monitors on the green desk hooked up to the machines under it, plus a G4 eMac. That's my testing stuff, so I throw whatever weird OS or distro onto those machines.
Far right is my server rack, with a very old Catalyst switch, a T400 and an E3 1231v3 virtualization server.
I think that's everything.

Just a humble lainon hopping by
That fursuit head sparked some curiousity, not want to derail this thread too much but I'd like to hear a bit about it as I used to be interested in making such things a good while back as well.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with replacement parts from a 2400. It's uses are limited and it doesn't cope well with HD media but what it does, it does reliably.
Yes I am a poorlain. Parts of that machine are possibly as old as some people who might be reading this.

Those old Dimensions were good machines. I like them.

I've got a couple small boxes running as servers at home. My main windows laptop because it makes stuff for work easier is with me while I stay at my girlfriend's house. My plumbing is all goofed up, and the plumbers are taking their sweet time. I also have a linux laptop that stays in my go bag that I use when I'm at clients or staying with a friend.

I feel your pain. I had a self-built machine of similar specs to yours until it finally died last year. I replaced it with a Dell Dimension 8400 which was given to me that I upgraded with parts from an ebay'ed machine that turned out to be mostly broken. Although still a Pentium 4 based (one of the first 64 bit capable ones yay) machine, it is a bit quicker than my old one in some respects, and hopefully just as reliable. All my other machines are considerably older (and slower) but I manage to get by somehow.
In some ways it is kinda ironic that web browsing is more painful than gaming on it these days.

I think it'd be neat if lainanons could band together to send you some computer parts. But to do it you'd have to dox yourself. You could rent a PO box, but PO boxes cost money. You could use a post collector like the Japanese do with 7/11s, but there's still nothing to stop your fellow anons from ordering 600 pizzas to that destination.
Basically you'd need your own board called /exchange/ with two trusted admins, with their own PO Boxes in America and Europe respectively. You'd send goods and money to the PO Box located nearest to pooranon. Trusted admin would then use the money to send goods to the real address and to fund the PO Box.
Would this idea be popular enough to pay for itself? Or are too many of us too poor or too shady to avoid sending razor blades and nerve gas? The way I see it, I've got AM2 hardware that's still better than your P4 and I'd trade it all for 1 peanut butter flavor pop tart from America
