What imageboard web apps do you suggest /g/? I've had a look at vichan & the lainchan fork, I'm not sure what else exists, I've also had trouble getting both of those to work because I'm an retarded.

I didnt meant to say /g/, I'm retarded. I meant tech because this isn't 4chan

We know you are retarded no need to state it

You want to own a imageboard?

At minimum you should learn about databases before trying to run an imageboard. You should know how to backup and restore data. Basic system administration is also a must (installing and configuring linux, nginx, mysql, php...). Learn to make a simple application that talks with database first so you get familiar with SQL and then try installing imageboard software such as vichan. It's not double click install, some effort is required. Also be prepared to work with undocumented spaghetti code, vichan is not exactly a great example of quality software engineering. There are a few other projects but mostly unfinished and not tested well. I haven't been messing with imageboards for quite some time, so things may have changed and something better than vichan exists.

>>7129 Pretty much all of what >>7136 said. If you're not satisfied with vichan (I wouldn't blame you for it) then maybe try one of these: http://9ch.in/overscript/. So much for the technical side of things. Actually running an imageboard community is a whole other story though. It's not particularly lucrative and honestly I lost track of the countless tiny boards I found neat but ultimately abandoned. You can't expect to deploy vichan to a vps and have people suddenly form a community around it. At the very least there needs to be a commom theme the chan revolves around. And no, a meme domain like waifus.moe won't cut it.

>>7133 Yes, & I want to learn more about web development so I thought an imageboard would be a good place to start. I have already learned a lot so far. >>7136 I was just doing it as a learning project because I wanted to learn more about sys administration, web development etc. I got everything working when I installed vichan except I couldnt log in as a mod, and no amount of using default usernames/passwords, or changing the mod username/passwords worked So far I have learned a lot though, I'm a lot more familiar with the linux command line because I'm using VPS with SSH. Learned a bunch about sql and I'm much more comfortable using it, same with php and apache. I've already put a lot of hours into trying to learn about the systems to get it to work but often ran in to undocumented issues, that has taught me a lot about troubleshooting though because I've fixed most of them up until this point, I've already had to work with a lot of that undocumented spaghetti code you mentioned. >>7139 Thanks for the link, I've had a skim of them but Ill look more into them in a bit. I'm not so concerned about the running of an imageboard community, I've already had lots of experience working on forums, and working to draw people into those communities. The chan does have quite a specific theme thats focused quite narrowly on politics, technology and information security. I wanted there to be more of a focus on community organization and coordinated offsite efforts because I feel like theres a lot of drive for it on other imageboards and forums but its either discouraged by the imageboard or there are only a few motivated people. I've got a list of quite obvious issues with other imageboards and I've worked around that during the creation of most of the site to figure out what my imageboard could do differently.
